20e Mondial de la bière

No better place to forget about the playoffs.

When : From May 29th to June 2nd
Where : Palais des congrès of Montreal
Price : 1$ per ticket (1 to 6 tickets per beers)
Beers : http://festivalmondialbiere.qc.ca/pd...ieres_2013.pdf

I'm disappointed with the beers selection from the USA in comparison to what was available last year. No Lagunitas, Founders, Jolly Pumpkins, Great Divide?

Also really disappointed with the lack of Brouhaha and À la fût.

Beers you should be looking for :

USA
Allagash : Curieux
Dogfish head : Burton baton
Dogfish head : 75 mins IPA
Ommegang : Three Philosopher
Stone : Arrogant *******
Stone : Oak aged Arrogant *******
Stone : Old Guardian barley wine

Belgium
Brasserie de l’abbaye des rocs : Triple impériale
Brasserie de l’abbaye des rocs : Grand Cru
Brasserie Dupont : Saison Dupont
Brouwerij Het Anker : Gouden Carolus Classique
Brouwerij st. Bernardus : Abt 12
Brouwerij st. Bernardus : triple

Québec
Microbrasserie du Lac St-Jean : Tante tricotante Chardonnay
Microbrasserie du Lac St-Jean : Gros Mollet lumber Jack
Cheval Blanc : Sour mash brett/cerise
Cheval Blanc : Abt fût de chêne
Saint-Bock : Calice “randall”
Trou du diable : La Dulcis succubus Brassin spécial
Succursale : Angus IP”aaa”
Dieu du ciel : Péché mortel

Stuff to avoid :
Shock Top (brewed by Budweiser)
Rickard's
Molson
Labatt (Stella Artois, Leffe, Hoegaarden)
Boris
Heineken
Newcastle
Creemore
Grolsch

I'll be going wednesday and thursday, I'll let you know what I tried and suggestions.

I haven't had the chance to try it but I've looked for it a lot while going to the USA. Had their Hop Stoopid but it was a few months old so it wasn't as good as hyped.

Picked some up a few weeks ago in Vermont...it is simply amazing, probably up there in my top 3 of what I've tried. Hoop Stoopid is solid as well.

Also found troegs nugget nectar in plattsburgh....could not believe my eyes. Damn good beer.

I make sure to get Nugget Nectar every year. It's one of my fav. Sadly, this year, I got a 6-pack of a few weeks old NN, wasn't nearly as good as fresh. That stuff is incredible when fresh.

For the occasional and BMC drinker they are. But these are macro beers. They are both respectively owned by Anheuser–Busch InBev and SABMiller.

Avoid that stuff.

With the quality of micro beers available at the Mondial de la bière, no one should be giving a single dollar to the macros.

Now what people like or not, it's up to them but it's makes no sense to drink a Shock Top or a Leffe at a place like this.

Agreed.

For the most part, I drink Keiths or Belle Gueule when I'm at home. If I'm going to a beer festival, though.. I'm trying things that I won't be able to get by walking into Provigo.

Thanks for the recommendations, Seb...I'll put your list to good use. Most of the stuff I really want is gone when I get there though.

I like Newcastle and brown Leffe...

Edit : I agree though that you go for more rare stuff at the beer fest

Central City Red Racer IPA
Muskoka Mad Tom IPA

Tante Tricotante
Apocalypse
Trois Mousquetaires Doppelbock
Trois Mousquetaires Kellerbier
Guinness
Erdinger Dunkel
Trou du Diable - probably everything, but Dulcis Succubus

Yeah I agree. I didn't see your other comment before I posted. I edited my post to show that I agree that you should go for beers you don't already do know or that you don't find so easily. I thought you meant that those beers suck.

Happy to know that Le Trou du Diable are there. I've been wanting to try their beer for quite a while now! I've heard a lot of good things about them.

Is it the first year it's at the Palais des Congrès? I like the concept but I use to lose patience when it was at the gare Windsor.

Don't get me wrong, I do believe they suck, but it wasn't the point I was trying to make with my suggestions.

Yes, the past 2 years have been at Place Bonaventure and it sucked because it was inside.

Let's hope this year is better at the Place des Congrès.
