(Yes, you recognize that last name ;-)
Congrats to TMac and his son. Joe Pavelski played for Waterloo as well.

Yup, our tickets in 202 went up one buck. Much less than the giant increase last year, but an increase nonetheless.

Drew's Thought of The Day

http://sharks.nhl.com/club/blogpost.htm?id=17432

Quote:
Between Game 3 and Game 4 I saw what I think is dedication to a dream personified.

It was at practice. The players had finished their skate or dry land training and the various interviews.
Some were leaving and some were enjoying lunch.

The ink stained scribes and digital media types had finished interrogating Todd McLellan and had scurried upstairs to post their stories.

Everything was winding down and it's a time to tell stories, listen to jokes or just head out and get on with your day.

Which is exactly what I decided to do. Usually I will skedaddle out the back door but I had parked my car at the side of the rink and decided to take a shortcut past the ice surface.

Then I saw it. Bracken Kearns all by himself working on his skating. He was performing techniques designed to improve and perfect his edge control.

The drills are tedious and take a full load of concentration and muscle control. It is not a common site to see a professional hockey player performing those drills. Especially during the playoffs and when that player is 31 years old.

But then I thought about it.

Here Bracken is. A good hour after everybody had left the ice surface trying to get better.
Trying to gain the edge, (both literally and figuratively). Never giving up on the dream.

I found that inspiring and very cool and it makes me cheer for him that much more.

Not sure if it has been posted or not but I am pretty sure the HP pavilion will be losing the HP part of it. It will be gaining a shiny new SAP name.

Just a rumor I got from someone whom I would consider to be credible

Considering the new owner and the fact HP wants out of the naming deal.. makes sense

IIRC that naming rights issue was mentioned about a month ago (so old news).

Too bad Facebook's "Home" is a dud. It would be cool if Facebook bought the naming rights and called it Facebook Home

I doubt they would retain the Pavilion portion of it, though it does make sense if looking up the definition of 'Pavilion'. Pavilion is a line of HP computers as well—the old double entendre trick.

Edit: I think it would be an interesting play on words if they were to do something like the SAP Open house or something. Sounds kinda weird at first, but I could see it sticking and would also promote their famous SAP Open.

ESPN article about Vlasic

Rather complimentary article from Pierre LeBrun about Vlasic. Not long, but a good read.

I just want to add, on top of being and elite blue liner... the guy is a class act. He always takes the time to stop and give fans autographs and a moment of his time, even after bad games. I respect him a lot as a player and a person.

Good LeBrun article on ESPN about Couture, too.

http://espn.go.com/nhl/playoffs/2013...youth-movement

Rather bold statement by Jumbo to claim about Couture: "now he's, I think, probably the most complete hockey player there is in the NHL today"

Also, maybe it's just me not remembering, but did anyone else know that back in the WCFs in 2011, Thornton's and Clowe's shoulder injuries were so bad, they couldn't even put on their own jerseys without assistance?

i remember clowe's being that bad, but not thornton's. but usually nothing comes out about thornton, just the fact that he was injured.

the only time i've ever heard exactly how bad an injury was with him was back in 2003-04 when he played the montreal series with torn rib cartilage, and they were saying he was freezing it just to make it possible for him to breath properly.

A few interesting bits and pieces about the Sharks in Elliotte Friedman's "30 Thoughts" column today, although I think he dug most of it out of old Pollak posts. Focused on Thornton and Sharks' team leaders. Scroll down to #'s 15 through 19.

In particular, "Conspiracy Theory: Sharks GM Doug Wilson wasn't going to trade Dan Boyle at the April 3 deadline, but he wanted Boyle -- and his other veterans -- to think he might."

(I'm hearing there's a compensatory pick later in 2nd round, so 111, 141, 187 and 201 are the last picks.)

As I have not heard the Sharks signed him by today's deadline, I'll go out on a limb to say the Justin Sefton is heading back to draft.
