I was hesitant to say he should be fired if they lose... I believe no coaches or GM should be shown the door this year because of the short season. The Ruff case was understandable, as they never won under him for what, 15 years ? But the Boucher firing was a panic move imo and Shero should not do what Yzerman did and wait to see the results of a 82-games season. Maybe the Isles would not be able to offer such a big opposition after 82 games rather than 48 !

I don't know, the Isles of 93 beating the Pens the best regular season team that year and two-time defending Stanley Cup Champion is right up there. The Isles have our number in playoff series like the Penguins have the Capitals number.

I would not consider this to be the biggest upset of all time. the 1995 NJ Devils team sweeping Detroit Red Wings to capture the cup, ranks right up there.
This one is pretty big, but the Wings weren't Cup winners yet, and the Pens had two back-to-back Cup wins and an amazing regular season. But knowing how good the Devils would be going forward, I am not so sure one can look at it as such a big shocker today vs. at that time. Pens were still a beast of a team after that and the Islanders, eh, not-so-much.

And to answer the question, no. The Northstars beating the Hawks in 91' and the Isles beating the Pens in '93 are two far bigger upsets. Hell, you can even argue the Ducks over the Wings in 03' or the Sens over the Devils in 98'.

The 93 team was more stacked than this one and that for me was/would be a bigger surprise. Anyways we're winning this now that Fleury is on the bench were he belongs

Warning: Goal-tending was not the Penguins only issue.

I agree about the 93 being bigger than this one...

But it would be pretty amazing for everyone outside of Pittsburgh.

LOL Kinda funny

NYIslanders ‏@NYIslanders 5m
#Isles have 14G in the last 3 games. Last time they had 14G in 3-game span in playoffs were games 5-7 when they knocked out #Pens in '93.

Biggest upset in NHL history? This would not even be the biggest upset for NYI over PIT. Not even in the top 2, for that matter. 1993 (upsetting the 2-time champs, by far the best team in the league), and 1975 (only 3rd year in existence, came from down 3-0) would rank higher.

I like how the Pens some how have become the under dogs in this. People are already assuming the Isles are going to win.

The Pens will probably win...but so far the Isles have outplayed them in 3/4 games played thus far.

This wouldn't even be the biggest upset in Isles/Pens history, let alone the entire league. That distinction still belongs to the 1993 series. That Pens team was a defending 2-time Cup champion and coming off one of the greatest regular seasons in memory.

Toronto beating Boston would be a bigger upset than the Islanders beating the Penguins.

5v5 Fenwick:

Toronto - 44.0
Boston - 54.0

Islanders - 50.8
Pittsburgh - 49.9

Hell, Toronto beating the ISLANDERS would be a bigger upset than the Islanders beating Pittsburgh.

1930 Habs over Bruins 2-0
1971 Habs over Bruins 4-3
1982 Kings over Oilers 3-2
1986 Flames over Oilers 4-3
1993 Islanders over Penguins 4-3
1994 Sharks over Red Wings 4-3
2000 Sharks over Blues 4-3
2006 Oilers over Red Wings 4-1
2010 Habs over Capitals 4-3

There have been a LOT of great upsets in NHL history. Not sure where this would rank but it certainly wouldn't be the biggest
