Probably because the coaches didn't bench Kovalchuk soon or hard enough.

Who would he play?
He benches Hall for turnovers which is what 90% of our team does.

Not with him not knowing the young players in the west. I think Ruff would do good with a year off to look at other coaches and then come back and coach a la Hitchcock.

Dubnyk has won the two starts he had so logic says go with him.

Nice pace to this game so far. Eberle and Hall would fly in sochi

Henrik Lundqvist has a twin brother and has not requested NYR to sign him so they can play together.

Enroth has been great this game. Hall, Ebs and Duchhene have been a solid line. Schiltz quietly looking good on the power play.

I haven't seen Hall and Eberle a whole lot. Disappointing. The coaching staff is really using them in a fourth line capacity.

Ruff is using Schultz a lot but I imagine that changes once he has one of the St. Louis defensemen or Hamhuis to choose from.

*Forget about Doughty coming if LA gets eliminated. His ego is too big for this tournament.

****!

I really loved that game though. Eberle was great for one period, Hall for one and a half and Schultz for two. Then I didn't see them anymore and honestly I didn't look for them to much. Normally I'd be pissed off and probably stay home on sick leave tomorrow after losing 3-0 but this time I'm ok with it. Good game, from both teams.

(I would have preferred Dubnyk in goal though, sorry to say it but in that way we would probably have scored a couple...)

I'd safely wager Hall led the game in scoring chances on top of putting Duchene in on a breakaway.

Giroux is leading the team in penalty minutes. Most of those penalties are of the dumb variety as well.

If you listened to Struds today on Gregor's show, he said the exact same things I was trying to convey. It is Team Canada with lots of more proven vets, not the last place Oilers. Hall is playing a third line role.

I do not think this is unreasonable when you look at the list of hall of fame players who played reduced roles For Team Canada in the past as well. Get over it already.

Number 2 with Strudwick at about 14 minutes.

How on Earth does this have any bearing on who gets to play on this fairly weak version of Team Canada.

Plus Hall was topten in scoring league wide. How many players getting more minutes then him were ahead of him in scoring?

How many players on Team Canada getting more minutes were more valuable players?

Heh. There are a lot of players from "bad" NHL teams in this tournament. This is the World Championships after all. Only playoffless NHL players need apply.

You just don't get that these are all good players and that our guys are further down the depth chart because of experience do you?

If guys like Joe Niewendyk, Theo Fleury, Joe Sakic and countless others who were stars accepted role playing spots on team Canada, depending on the year, I am sure Hall can too.

Who you are on the last place (almost) Oilers doesn't matter. What you did doesn't matter. Did you even listen to what Struds said? They are not the vets that a coach will favour. They are rookies as far as this goes. Third line guys. Not even on the PP.

Piss and moan all you want. It's Team Canada, not the Oilers. They are not being asked to carry the team. They are being asked to be third liners. It is what it is and whether ir not you agree with it or not, they do not have as long of a track record as the guys ahead. I am not saying those guys are better, but the coach is relying on what has been proven to be consistent and what he is familiar with.

When you have all the top guys from eliminated teams, somebody is always going to get used less or differently than they are on a club team, especially when they are young and like high risk plays.

Pretty much. Arguing that our guys deserve more because they sucked less is......yeah. Let them use this to work on being part of Team Canada. I have zero issue with our guys playing lesser roles.

I missed that these guys are playing on Team Canada. Yeah I don't get it. Maybe tell me what accomplished, brilliant, star veterans are taking up all the minutes instead of Hall.

A Team Canada that can't score goals to save its life benches a player that finished topten in scoring. Makes a lot of sense.

The way Canada is playing now, I don't really have much of a problem with it. He should be on the PP, though.

WE scored 3 goals and needed brilliant goaltending to get a W over one of the most pathetic Swedish National teams ever assembled.

I'm guessing you didn't watch the game? Smith did have to be sharp on some chances but Sweden also got great goaltending. Canada dominated offensively in the first 2 periods but shut it down in the 3rd and the game was already decided by then and that's where Sweden got most of its shots.

The stats were flattering to Sweden frankly.
