Bridge contract was a smart deal. It was a good move for both parties 107 54.04%

Love his emotion, needs to corral it a bit, as some of his penalties were ill advised

Lord almighty in two years time when Beauleiu, Tinordi and Galchenyuk are all peaking this team will be a treat

It's a shame the Habs didn't keep the other great defenceman they drafted in the first round. We'd have a top 3 pairing in the league.

well, he was voted for a norris nomination, and has a good chance of winning.

I think Galchenyuk becomes a top 10 player in the nhl, in 4-5 years. his tools and iq is too high, coupled with his attitude (never gave up, even down 6-1) is something you cannot teach. the guy has everything you want in a player.

I think this year was a huge learning curve for price, after his performance in game 1, he came back and played solid. Anderson was hot, and deserved to win; however, price was good.

that said, I believe price will be the best goalie in the nhl next year and will be for a long time. there's somethings that can only be learned through experience, and I think price has learned A LOT this year.

Price has never being the best player , it was all made up by the organization who wanted a franchise player asap.the only one who is going to be close to subban level is galchyenuk and imo #1 dman > #1 center. If subban play most of his carrer with the habs i think he has a legit chance to have his jersey retired.

Remember the handshakes after the Boston series. PK was all smiles and congratulatory. This time around...not so much. Hopefully the sting of losing will feed this monster.

Overlords has it right. The fire in Pk was lit by the management position that policy trumps potential. Pk looked to clear the doubt in their minds.

Good move by management, too bad they couldn't maneuver that direction with Carey .

Because PK's problems were because he didn't have that fire inside him

Those who are vividly criticizing Subban's bridge deal should take a step back and look at things in perspective. This will make team growth easier, and contractual decisions less painful.

Price was the best player on the team the last 2 years, how does that qualify as "never"?

Who said there was a problem? I am just informing you that the team has benefitted from Bergevins contract management policies as overlords stated.

And we got a bargain for this year and next.

Tell me how this is different from what Bergevins envisioned when he gave him a bridge contract. What was he hoping for? That Subban sucked this year so he can then sign him for 3 mil per for 6 years???

Yeah maybe Myers was overated and Subban is much better. Bergevin just wanted to be sure of this and of Subban's attitude before he gave him this contract. Now you sign him for 6 or 7 million per who cares, now YOU KNOW he's worth it.
This. This is exactly what was supposed to happen. I agree with the bridge philosophy and think this is a shining example of why it's a good idea. It was reinforced that Subban is part of the TEAM, and he came out and proved what an important part of that team he is. You can't think MB was hoping to now get him at a bargain-basement price. He just wanted to know that this would be the right place to spend all that money. And it seems to be.

Prices 'best player ' status is urban myth. Until they dredged up Auld and Budaj he wasn't even the best goalie on the team.

Plus, you get an additional 2 years and have an easier time constructing the whole roster. Still a smart move imo.

Also look at what too much too soon did for Phaneuf, Myers, Richards, Carter and others.

With the extra money we'll probably just extend and overpay our free agents... oh wait

Not a big deal, we either get the savings now or later. I'd prefer if we would have signed him long term and if I PK now, I wouldn't leave a dime on the table after the low-ball crap he ended up signing.

Dont waste time on me, it might take you away from Writing more stuff about Galchenyuks defensive shortcomings vis-a-vis Desharnais.

That's the real manure that makes this board grow.

3 yrs - 22.5M, 7.5 yr, play a little more but shorter term to ensure he doesn't go off the rails.
