Maybe this is why they didn't call him up with the rest of the Black Aces? They knew he'd get the call?

I presume they didn't call him up to the NHL team because it'd burn a year from his contract. He was probably playing for the Bulldogs on an ATO.

Looking forward to seeing him play in the WC's anyway. Hope he gets some nice ice time.

Awesome! It'll be interesting to see how he does against some good competition. If we get eliminated maybe Pacioretty will decide to join him.

That would only apply to junior aged players. His contract started this season, he'll be an RFA next summer.

College players are frequently signed to ATO's in the AHL after their season ends and only signed properly by the big club once the season is over.

Pretty strange that the Habs are releasing him for the WC's rather than bringing him to Montreal as a black ace if he does have an NHL contract.

Maybe I'm underrating Kristo, but it seems to me that forward depth is a strength on this team. I can see Therrien preferring to play Noke, Blunden and Leblanc if necessary, given their NHL experience. By then, we'd be down to our 18th forward...

I find it logical. Better have him play in the WHC against competition better than what he has ever faced, with teammates better than he ever had, than pratice with our team and not play a single game barring 2-3 injuries in our top-9 players.

I was happy to see him named on the team but now that I've seen the roster it doesn't feel as big of an accomplishment anymore

The US team at the WC's are almost always crap.

USA Hockey have had serious trouble getting good American players to commit to the World Championships for years, especially in a year like this where committed guys like Jack Johnson and Zach Parise look like they'll make the playoffs.

You're kidding, Kristo is the only forward with no NHL experience on the US team? That says a hell of a lot.

Drew Leblanc has no NHL experience either.

It says more about the quality of most WC teams this year than anything else.

Will any Habs get the call for the WC's? Would be great to see Galchenyuk play for Team USA!

Pacioretty and Chuckie could easily make team USA and Subban could make Team Canada, could help them with the experience. It sure helped Emelin winning gold last season.
