Special teams--Flower play and ice the puck

Thought this quite decisive subject deserves a thread of its own. Lets hope it can ride well into June.

I would like to see the following units on the ice:

PP 1
Callahan - Stepan - Nash
Stralman - Zuccarello

PP 2
Richards - Brassard - Clowe
Moore - MDZ

PK 1
Stepan - Callahan

PK 2
Boyle - Pyatt

PK 3 ( ESP when trailing)
Hagelin - Nash

Elaborate...

I like Richards' shot from the point. Get rid of MDZ, move Richards back and let's give Hagelin some PP time. Otherwise, it looks perfect to me.

That we use Girardi over Stralman on the power play steams me. Might as well put a pinball bumper on the point.

Emulate Washington's 1-3-1.

--------Stepan--------
Callahan-Boyle--Zuccarello
-------Stralman-----------

-------Brassard---------
Nash---Clowe---Richards
--------Moore/Del Zotto------

Girardi scored our only PP goal Wednesday on a bullet from the point. Watch the game?

I feel like that's something of an aggressive question to ask.

Yes, to state the obvious, I did watch the game. And no, one goal did not deter me from my opinion on Girardi's offensive abilities.

This season, Girardi logged the second most PP ice time amongst our defensemen. 98 minutes. Do you know how many points he had on the power play? Two. All season. He was on the point for the full duration of the equivalent of 49 power plays, and got two points.

Watch the season?

Nice.

I agree, it's baffling that Stralman gets as little PP time as he does. He's proven to be effective on the PP at the NHL level.

At this point, Brassard has to be out on the 1st unit.

Stralman and Moore have the best D-men shots from the point on the team.

Zuccarello and Richards have that for the forwards.

Use accordingly.

Pyatt almost never kills penalties.

Who exactly is taking faceoffs for the third PK unit? That looks horrible either way. Just rotate Stepan-Callahan and Boyle-Hagelin like we've been doing. Nash on the PK against the Caps scares the hell out of me unless there is like less than 20 seconds left.

the lack of PP is hurting the Rangers.. Caps have taken a lot of penalties... Rangers could have lead the series 3-1 if they would score on the PP chances the Rangers are getting.. 0-4 the Rangers were tonight while the Caps are 1-2...

Series would be over, if they had a PP.

Rangers would have won... the lack of PP hurts this team.. and no one in the organization seems to know what to do about it

Lack of a threat from the point kills this team, PP and even strength. All the great work down low behind the goal line is for naught when every opponent is keyed on stopping the centering pass.

I really, really wish Justin Schultz had decided to come here.

I doubt it would have changed much.

It's just awful watching this PP kill the team's momentum and chances at winning games year in and out with no end in sight. It has to be the biggest single thing you can point to and lay blame on for the Rangers not taking games that they played well enough to win.

Powerplay is all about creativity and confidence with the puck... Hockey players learn how to run an umbrella at the Bantam level LOL.

John Moore is a pretty good threat from the point.

I'd just keep Brassard out there for the entire 2 minutes.

I'd put Brassard, Moore, Zuccarello/Del Zotto, Stepan, and Nash out there as a unit.

Nash in the slot in a Brouwer-like role, Zuccarello/Del Zotto on point/left wing boards, Moore in the high slot, Stepan down low, and Brassard as a rover. Try and set up either the big, low point shot from Moore or the bam-bam play to Nash in the slot.
