I'd like to see us take Luka Gracnar personally. He'll be available with a much later pick and his numbers overseas are great for a 19 year old.

He has done very well this year for a kid playing against men on a pretty flawed Red Bull Salzburg roster. He played 59 games this year and put up GAA 2.36, SVS% 92,1 good for 6th in the league. Not bad for a 19 year old.

His role was pretty much defined as backing up Alex Auld (who was brought in to add some NHL flair after Marty Turco did not earn a new contract but failed miserably) and late addition Veteran Bernd Brückler (anybody still remember him?) but Gracnar took over in the second half of the season.
He just signed a 3 year contract extension and may be ready to be the full time starter as soon as next season if he opts to stay in the EBEL.

Gracnar is small but athletic. His puck handling is pretty raw but this can be said of most European goalies.

Yeah the goalie situation for Red Bull was confusing this year. There really isn't a very big goalie this draft. I'm bigger then Fucale and I think he's one of the biggest.

Let him develop in London? Ok, how'd that work out for 3rd round draft pick Adam Morrison, 5th round draft pick Nicola Riopel (who many on this board were gung ho over based on his fantastic numbers in juniors which translated into 22 games in the AHL with a GAA over 3.35) and 3rd round pick Jacob DeSerres (now playing at the University of Calgary)?

It's great that so many are excited about a local kid who is a goaltending prospect, but forgive me if I have no faith that this organization can draft, let alone develop, a goalie.
To bad for you. Me, I always have a positive attitude. Like Warren Zevon said "Enjoy every sandwich" Dam good outlook to have.

Start out being depressed and anything positive is a bonus. In some cases I'd prefer to go that route rather than be disappointed time after time, especially when the term "goalie of the future" has been used ad nauseum.

Warren Zevon can say "enjoy every sandwich" all you want, but after a bunch of poop sandwiches it's hard to keep enjoying them.

Maybe Stolarz will turn out to be a stud. If so, I'll be happy about it. If not, I won't be disappointed.

If they somehow win it and force a game 7, Stolarz should be back in net. They were up 4-1 with 7 minutes left.

Patterson saw 27 shots through regulation and faced only 9 in the third but gave up 4 goals.

London prevails in OT 5-4 to force a game 7. Hopefully they go back to Stolarz for game 7.

Can they really go back to Stolarz after winning two in a row?

I'm not sure but a poster on the London board seems to think Stolarz is a good bet for game 7. He said "Jake (Patterson) rattles way too easy"

Portland beat Edmonton 5-1. Leier had a goal. Portland wins the series 4-2 and moves on to the Memorial cup.

So it's Saskatoon, Halifax, Portland, and the winner of Monday's game between London/Barrie in the Memorial Cup.

When was the last time a host team won it all?

Shawinigan won it last year as the host beating London 2-1 in OT in the final. They finished second in their conference but got knocked out in the second round of the QMJHL playoffs.

I would say they had a bit of advantage having like a month off while the other teams were grinding it out in the playoffs. I felt like London was the best team in the tournament but ended up losing in a close game in the finals. I thought St. John's and Edmonton were big time disapointments in that tournament.

It should be a better tournament this year though especially if London makes it in. A lot draft eligible talent for us to watch since the NHL Network televises the whole thing live in the US too.

I'm certain that was a very reputable source with a lot of wise insight.

Can we load this one up, Mods? Either that or we could officially designate a little-used existing font as Sarcastica. How about Impact:

Leighton was a beast in the 2010 playoffs. The numbers show it. It was just bad luck that he didn't lead the Flyers to a Cup.

Hmm, a little boldish but it has promise. I'll do my part to promote Impact where applicable.

good for the knights

and they are off to the bridge city. i will say this, the friday night game, ed v portland, omg, that coulda been the best game i have seen all year. god those kids were moving. i got tired watching them. i knew portland was gonna destroy edmonton in game 6, and boy did they ever. 5-1. that winterhawks team, that is the one team i would fear the most at the memorial cup. they are good. and angry. they will be very difficult to stop. and with these long term sanctions coming up, these guys just nail it at the draft. seth jones is gonna be done as a winterhawk at the memorial cup. portland isnt sweating it, cuz seths brother is gonna be a hawk, next season. he is 5-11, 175 lbs, and he is projected to be 6-5,6-6, 220 lbs when he is done growing. and although seth is a good hitter, checker, his lil bro just loves to hit, more than seth does.

Just saw the highlights. Wow, video review on the series winning goal.
