Shocked that Wings fans wouldn't go for this personally. Rights to a player generally go for a 4th or 5th rounder, so the trade is more a 1st and Helm for Edler. More than fair.
I'm not saying that i would'nt personally do it, I'm just saying that Ken Holland wont do it Detroit wants to keep there 2013 1st.

Assuming Van can sign Filppula, this could solve a few of Vancouver's issues at forward.
Wow, that seems horrible for VAN. And you are a VAN fan? UFA rights are relatively meaningless, you realize that. All it gives you is a short time of exclusive negotiations. I think you are valuing those rights much too high.

Detroit isnt really in the position to make this deal. Although with the way Emmerton and Andersson have played this season, losing Helm wouldnt be the end of the world. The problem is the pick and where they would slot Edler in.

Dekeyser and Smith will both get top 4 minutes next year and plenty of them. Kronwall and Ericsson are going to get the same, as well as Kindl. With some of these young guys showing signs of legit play, there's no reason to stunt their growth any further.

Now, maybe next year at the deadline, the Wings would re-evaluate. Just makes no real sense now.

I agree Filppula would cost Vancouver at least $5.0M-$5.5M a year to sign and Vancouver does'nt have the cap space to make this deal.

Well, getting rid of Edler would make the room, but this trade still makes little sense for either team.

No thanks. Edler isn't as good as 'Nucks fans make him out to be.

Right and besides Helms Injuries in the last 2 season, Not even sure how his future will be. Not sure if Vancouver would want to commit not knowing if he will be able to stay healthy.

Agree we have a good young core of Defenseman coming up and we dont need Edler, Still would'nt mind either Bogosian or Yandle for the right price but either way the right price would be massive overpayment on Detroits part.

I don't think his back will be an issue once it's actually healed. I think half the problem has been they have had no idea what it is and how to treat it, so he keeps reaggravating it.

Not a chance Detroit would even contemplate this. Edler doesn't play D and Detroit needs Helm.

That's true for awhile they could'nt find any issues. Until they discovered a small tear in one of his back discs and now that it's being properly treated he should be fine next season.

Most likely they would want Nyquist and the only way i see Nyquist leaving would be possibly if Detroit would resign Filppula. Like what one of the other members said it would be most likely Tatar that would be traded before Nyquist.

He's undermining Edler's talent but regardless, he's not the type of defender Detroit needs. They need somebody who can be a shutdown guy because at the moment, all they have for that is DeKeyser.

And quite frankly it appears obvious that Detroit is content to stick with the guys in their system, which isn't all that bad of an idea, because they're loaded with good defensive prospects.

Red Wings and Canucks don't make good trading partners.

Their best offensive forwards are getting up there in age and will be past their prime pretty soon while their young forward prospects aren't anything to write home about because they aren't proven.

I love the Wings prospect pool. But I agree with everything else.

Edler wont get what richards/carter did in return because he simply isnt as good

Edler is good no doubt about that but come on folks no team will move a mid range first round pick plus a top prospect plus a solid prospect, again NO TEAM

maybe the Isles for El Nino and a 3rd would be a good fit or something like that

Err, the forward prospects have been looking pretty damn good so far.
