So... it's likely that he's fired by the end of the week?

I didn't listen to the interview but in the other thread someone mentioned that Sakic said he would consider Roy. However, he didn't name him as a candidate.

IMO Seemed more like he was dancing around the subject than anything.

Just joked he will neither confirm or deny his interest in Roy as head coach when pressed.

McKenzie brought up the speculation about Roy, Tippett, and Chynoweth as coaching candidates.

He said Avs will have to pay Roy "top dollar" and they can't have a payroll at the bottom of the league. He also mentioned how the Avs are an organization that doesn't spend a lot of money and watch their dollars very closely. That could change with Kroenke taking over as President but if it doesn't, it's going to be very tough to get Roy.

Just briefly mentioned Tippett's contract status and how he's out there.

Finally, he said Chynoweth is a possibility if they decide to promote from within and continue doing things on a "scaled down Colorado kind of way".

Then we can say good bye to Roy, at least for next season, because we are not gonna add a lot of players through UFA-market, because there are so many players becoming RFAs/UFAs after next season, that we can't afford to sign almost anyone.

It always looks that way... And remember, now the current team can sign a guy for 8 years. Which gives the possibility of high end talent making it to free-agency even less so.

No we shouldn't go crazy but a good winger (Stalberg, Horton, Clarkson, Dupuis), and a veteran left handed Defender should be in the cards. Or at least considered, that does not mean they should give Stalberg 4M per year or Horton 6M.

Another Parenteau would be good. Here is an interesting article on why Dupuis has a good chance of succeeding without Crosby. It's from a fantasy prospective but an interesting breakdown.

I agree but AV still hasnt been fired yet...Long offseason to go, but Sakic said they wanted someone hired by the draft which hurts Tippetts chances doesnt it?

By the draft

No Junior coaches

Experience

If they follow all of these to the letter, the only realistic options are Ruff and Boucher. Like I've said before, it's not impossible for them to get permission to talk to Tippet.

The only part of that, that they didn't seem to reiterate is the time table. They said they would like to find someone by the draft but were not going to rush it.

We should first decide what do with David Jones.

Very valid points and the lack of a true time table leaves a lot up in the air. I am still hoping for Tippett or AV and if neither of them, Roy.

What do we do with Mr Jones not named Seth. Was this just a fluke year? Or did he get his paycheck and no longer care? Tough to say.

If we keep him and he continues to be horrible, we will get even less for him.

If we buy him out, knowing our luck, he will sign for cheap with someone and tear it up somewhere.

I think the Avs will be SOL no matter what we do with him.

Give him until next season's trade deadline to turn it around, then trade/buyout his ass ASAP if he does not turn it around. Hell, they should probably trade him instantly if he has a good start.

I don't think he will be bought out this off-season, but next off season he'll only have 8M left, which is a bit different from 12M.

Waiting on Jones to turn it around isn't the answer to being a competitive team next year. Hes going to have to catchup, the team shouldn't wait for him just because of the cost.

This is one thing I hope changes...

They need to sign or trade for a top 6 forward regardless of what happens to Jones. There is still room for him in the top 9 even with a good forward acquisition.

Dupuis - Duchene - Parenteau

Landeskog - O'Reilly - Downie

McGinn - Stastny - Jones

- (Trade) -

McGinn - Duchene - Parenteau

Landeskog - O'Reilly - Downie

Vanek - Stastny - Jones

JM is a defensive-system coach... he isn't the kind to scream at players like Roy would.

I know Roy accomplished much with the Remparts (one Memorial Cup victory, several NHLers) BUT I'd rather want Roy coach LEM first.

Sakic got interviewed on CBS4 tonight, they were pressing him on Roy without mentioning his name, asking if somebody with Colorado roots will come back to coach who the fans would know, and Sakic, with his dry sense of humor, said "I can't coach, I'm already doing this."
