I don't remember ever hearing of this guy in camp in Montreal...

He has pretty underwhelming stats for a guy that spent so much time in the Q. What type of player is he?

He does not have the footspeed to be in the NHL.

He was at Bulldogs camp, since there was no Habs camp.

He scored the only goal in our pre-season games for the dogs.

I didn't get to listen to today's press conference, I take it nothing was said about Nygren, the deadline is fast approaching with 18 days to go. Was hoping it won't go down to the wire to sign him.

Why would they not sign Nygren? They tried to bring him over here for crying out loud. They'd be insane to not sign him.

I have absolutly no fear that Nygren will be signed, he said himself they were realy following him this season and he was invited to the Dogs last stretch. Pretty sure the talks have started around that time. My real question is that ''will they be able to get him with the Dogs this upcoming season'', no reason to leave him in Sweden at 23 years old. At 6''1 he'd be a physical monster in Montreal.

He's a gritty checker/defensive minded guy.

Thanks. That's what I thought when I saw his stats but then I wasn't sure since he has very few PIM. I guess that's a good news if he can be gritty yet disciplined.

To be exact Nygren is a mobile offensive defenseman / PP specialist. Good shot, can hit sometimes.

He is maybe a two-way defenseman, but definitely not a defensive defenseman.

Gritty in a Plekanec/Bergeron kind of way.

Nice to see them get the Nygren contract out of the way, now that the NHL has signed a new PTA and Sweden is a part of it, will be interesting to see if the Habs want him to come over now or go back to the SEL next season.

Well, considering we had a revolving door on D in Hamilton last year, and the likelyhood that at least one of Tinordi/Beaulieu spends significant time in Montreal, one would think they'd like to keep him in Hamilton to start the year. His pro experience is sure to be a nice addition to a young D-corps too.
