Tatar-Helm-Samuelsson

Defenseman free agents I believe are: Visnovsky, Streit, Gonchar, Hainsey, Regher, Scuderi, Murray, Lydman, Roszival
I would be devastated if we made that trade. We would be good for like 2 years and then be done for years on end.

Even if the Wings let Cleary, Miller, Flip and White Walk and DO NOTHING to replace them....
13 Forwards
Datsyuk
Zetterberg
Franzen
Nyquist
Andersson
Brunner
Abdelkader
Helm
Eaves
Samuelsson
Bertuzzi
Tootoo
Emmerton

EIGHT DEFENSE
Kronwall
Ericsson
Quincey
Colaiacovo
Kindl
Smith
Dekeyser
Lashoff

Goalies
Howard
Gustavson

There's your 23 Man roster - Before you've called up Tatar. Before you've called up Ferraro or Sheahan. Before you've replace Flip, Cleary or Miller. Before you've signed a guy like Torres.

Get Ready for MORE OF THE SAME.

Some youngsters will improve.
Our best players continue to age.

Besides. There's something new called the salary cap in the NHL. Could change everything

No choice.
It was either buy them out, or let Datsyuk stay in Russia, Let Zetterberg stay in Sweden, and lose Yzerman and Shanahan

I thought the Wings had something like $20 million under the cap with which to pursue free agents?

How about using that money to sign a couple of big, fast, tough, scrappy, skillful forwards to support Datsyuk and Zetterberg until the young guys in Grand Rapids mature?

11.8

White will probably be let go but Kindl and Smith are RFAs so need to be factored in

then on forward even if Filppula is let go Brunner is a UFA and Nyquist and Andersson are RFAs(and Miller and Cleary are UFAs)

even if the Wings just brought back Nyquist/Andersson/Brunner/Kindl/Smith and called Tatar up that's almost all of that money right there

even bringing in one decent guy would probably require either letting Brunner walk or buying someone out

Apparently it does considering he has had that philosophy for his entire tenure as GM and has won more playoff games and Stanley Cups than any other GM by using that philosophy.

That sounds like about 5-7 million of that 11.8 to me.

Where do I think we go next year? Stick with the program. Filppula is not likely going to be resigned, but his play probably hasn't earned him a $5 million deal either. So it's possible he comes back at about what he makes now, which isn't horrible. But I'll assume he isn't coming back. I think we will also not bring back Cleary and buyout Sammy. So,I think that we have a lineup of...

Franzen-Datsyuk-Abdelkader
Nyquist-Zetterberg-Brunner
Tatar-Helm-Bertuzzi
Eaves-Andersson-Tootoo

The defense will look mostly the same as well. Maybe we bring in a guy like Edler if Vancouver lets him go. I could also see us going after a player like a Nathan Horton with the move east. So that changes things up front a little. Bt I think the experience this year has been great for this team, especially the young talent on our roster. I think Holland has done a good job of not trading away the farm and letting guys mature, all the while still remaining competitive in a building year.

There's no chance that Holland buys out Bertuzzi or Sammy UNLESS he brings in a UFA.. and even then, it needs to be an expensive UFA...

Would love to See Torres and Iginla on the WIngs next year
Let Flip, Cleary and Miller walk.
Promote Tatar.
Dump, CC, Sammy and Tootoo

Look at the Skill --- hitting and grit in this lineup.

Can you imagine Torres-Datsyuk-Iginla?
Franzen back riding shotgun with Z.
The kid line with Tatar.
A fourth line of Bert-Helm-Abby?
The D is still iffy, but should be improved with experience

Hate to break it to some people but i doubt they buy out Sammy. On after hours a couple weeks back Holland said something along the lines of "next year when we have Samuelsson and Helm"...so yeah. Not that bad IMO as he only has one year left and Tootoo has 3 at 2 mill almost i think he will be bought out.

No one will be bought out. That's pretty much 100% sure. Holland respects his contracts.

Filppula walks, we replace him with Nyquist

Cleary walks, we replace him with Tatar

Miller walks, we replace him with Andersson.

That's kind of it.

Of course we could pursue some UFA like Nathan Horton that really makes us better and then Eaves could become unnecessary.

Defence and Goalies are set with those guys we already have (only White walks and trade another?).

Franzen - Zetterberg - Brunner
Nyquist - Datsyuk - "Horton"/Bertuzzi
Abdelkader - Helm - Samuelsson
Tatar - Andersson - Tootoo/Bertuzzi
(Eaves, Emmerton)

Kronwall - Ericsson
Quincey - Smith
DeKeyser - Kindl
(Colaiacovo, Lashoff)

Howard
Gustavsson

Switch Tatar and Abby. No way Abby deserves third line over Tatar. Abby is a 4th liner, this year showed it.

I am gonna wait until this year is over before I start looking at the offseason. We still don't know how the playoffs will play out. Some may rise and some may fall. If the win this game 7 there will be opportunities for players to raise their stock price or fall out of favor. This team isn't done yet.

If Abby is a 4th liner on this team, what are Cleary, Eaves, Miller, Tootoo, Emmerton, and Andersson?

uh....also 4th liners? what's your point?

there's a reason most of the forum wants to get rid of more than one of the players you just listed entirely

I just want Cleary gone. And if he is resigned, I blame Babcock for getting his way. I don't get what Babcock see's in this guy.

Instead of potentially being in a great position this offseason, Hollands hoarding and bad contracts from last offseason will put us in a compromised position. He doesn't have the guts to admit Sammy was a mistake.

One of CC or KQ and one of Bert, Sammy or Eaves will be bought out, 100% guarnteed.

Brunner, nyquist, tatar, anderssin, smith and dekeyser will all be on the starting roster.

Kh has no choice but to buyout 2 players, dont see any trades going down, and thats without any external help through free agency.

I really don't understand the love affair with a mediocre 4th line center. That doesn't do one thing at an above average level to make him stand out.

He's better than Miller, Eaves, Emmerton, Andersson (though Jocke has closed that gap), and Tootoo. And we had Bert and Sammy injured most of the year. And Flip was either hurt or just bombed this season. If we had worked Nyquist and Tatar into the lineup last year, so they were prepared for a larger role this year, I think Cleary would have stayed in the bottom half of the lineup. As it was...yeah. Agree about wanting him gone, though.

Better at what? The only thing I would say is getting in front of the goalie and screening/deflections.
