In this scenario, I feel like the team with Quick (or Lundqvist) is the only one that wins more than 12 regular season games.

As much as I like Quick, he can't score so I picked Crosby and you hope to just outscore the other team. Also the secondary pieces are not really fair, a decent offense or defense is way better than a decent backup that will probably never play.

Probably even MAF if we don't include playoffs LOL

Quick had a single great season. He's not elite until he can do it consistently.
So you call Quick not elite for not doing it consistently, but then simultaneously name Rask as a better goaltender when he's never even played a full season? Ha, ok.

And that argument about consistency doesn't even hold up. Have you even looked at Quick's numbers?

I took you seriously for a second.
Get back surgery on a fragmented disc. Then see how well that recovery goes, ok?

Perhaps you haven't been watching his last 20 games or so? I'd say Conn Smythe Quick is back in full force. He won that series for us.

Saying Price, Rask, and MAF are ahead of Quick is a joke.

You probably play fantasy hockey and only care about a stat line.

I'm a Rangers fan. The goalie option is basically my life, and trust me it's not pretty.

Give me Crosby. At least we'll have more fun losing 8-6 than losing 2-1 in overtime, again and again and again and again and again and again.

EDIT: Ok maybe it's not that bad. Sometimes it's 1-0.

Crosby putting up 102 points, was able to carry his team to the 1st overall pick.

The best goalie in the league (not the one listed) carried a team who's top scorer was Brandon Dubinsky a game from getting into the playoffs.
And one led by Scott Gomez into the playoffs.

Honestly, great goaltending can steal series. Not saying quick but great goaltending overall. I'd rather have a great goalie than a Crosby or Karlsson. Like the Pens their goaltending was a joke and the isles took them to 6. Unless Crosby can also play good goaltending then Goaltending is most important.

Also I think the Habs would of won the Sens if price didn't crap the bed.

I take Quick 10/10 before Lundqvist. Lundqvist is disgusting playoff choker most overrated player in NHL by far.

It was the 2nd overall pick. And Crosby is supposed to turn around a team that had sucked for nearly half a decade in his rookie season?

Best results for one season? Quick (or Lundqvist)

But for long term I would pick Crosby and defence offence, stacking some great draft picks for 2-3 years (because of terrible goaltending and defence) and then have a good talent in organisation (alongside with best player in the world) and trade for a goalie then.

I'm saying that a 100 point player surrounded by a bunch of **** can't help the team. Another example would be a Lightning

An elite goaltender can lead a bunch of **** can take a team to the playoffs

Agree with this. I've watched enough of the Rangers to know that the best goalie option would be my last choice. Give me Crosby, no doubt.

Lundqvist is the best goalie in the league, easily. No disrespect to Jonathan Quick, but Lundqvist is better, and has been consistently at the top of the league for years. Quick has just turned it on just one season ago.

As to the point of this thread, the answer is Crosby, without thinking twice. Best player in the world, and can take over a game by himself (Not that Erik can't, but you know what I mean)

Ok so people are saying the reason lundqvist is far better than quick is because he has been elite for longer. Yet when people name karlsson as the top defence man nobody says a thing even though he has been elite for 1-2 seasons.

That's true.

Quick just dragged a team that played some terrible defense and was trapped in their own zone repeatedly through a series with 1.58 GAA and .944%SV. He also had a strong year in 10-11, with 09-10 being his first year. I don't see what's so outlandish about it. If Quick starts setting a trend of carrying his team further than Lundqvist can, why is the latter guy automatically assumed to be the better goaltender?

I'll agree that an argument could be made that Quick is the best goalie in the league. However it is FAR from consensus. Who's up for the Vezina this year? It's also pretty clear just from this thread that there isn't a consensus on this issue.

If Quick was the best goalie in the league I would've won my hockey pool this year

All that aside I think you have to start with defence. The difference of having an elite defender that can win the puck back and move it smartly up is huge. Crosby is phenomenal talent but I think the Pens would like markedly different if Letang wasn't in the lineup.

Karlsson outscored every other defenseman last year by at least 25 points. When Quick is that much better than every other goalie we can talk.

Yes because points is the only way we should judge the quality of a defenseman.
