This is just sad. Poor Weber.

@zababes1:
#Habs Raphael Diaz off to Sweden for World Championships. Yannick Weber prepared to go but Diaz took final spot on Swiss roster.

Wow. Diaz really is Weber's nemesis.

Stole his job on the Habs and on the national team.

Are they even friends? Never really seen them together or anything.

There's definitely racism in some cases with media and with the whole "Yard Ape" comment, but not with icing a winning hockey team.

Unfortunately for PK, they just invited Dan Hamhuis the day before we got eliminated, so they are at 8 defenseman already. They other roster spots (they have two player spots left) are likely designated for forward, considering they only have 12 forwards, so one injury and they are screwed.

They were probably also waiting to see what happened on the Pittsburgh front, to leave some spots open for the Crosby, Kunitz, Morrow, etc.

Now that Pittsburgh has advanced, PK MIGHT get a call, but it depends if they want to add a 9th defenseman to the roster or add two forwards.

Switzerland is carrying nine defenseman with Diaz.

If Montreal didn't make the playoffs, Weber would have been there.

Sorry, it still makes any sense. Even if they'd be 14 D's...he'd still be their #1.

If they had 14 D.. they'd only have 8 forwards, so no.. no it wouldn't make sense.

If I were them, I'd go with 13 forwards and 9 defenseman to carry PK - but I'm not, so I'm just throwing out possible reasoning. They aren't not calling PK because he's dark skinned. If we missed the playoffs, he'd have been playing 25 minutes a game there.

But if they thought they had a chance at adding Crosby + Kunitz, I can see why they'd have waited.

Now that Pittsburgh isn't eliminated, we will probably see some roster movement, although they may wait until the preliminary round is over, to see where injuries are.

PS. I know Yzerman said he capped his roster, but I'm 99% sure if Crosby got eliminated and wanted to come, he'd open it up.

why would PK want to go, risk injury, and possibly kiss goodbye generations worth of millions... for a stupid annual tourney.

I would never do it in his shoes.. Leave it for the Diaz's of this world that need to prove something or once he gets a long term contract.

PK isn't a free agent...

Even if he got injured and was out for a year, he'd still get paid crazy money.

Maybe but no chance Crosby would have gone with his jaw injury

Doubt it, wouldn't be surprised if he doesn't make the Olympic roster next season.

he would lose a huge amount of money. Still get a lot, but a lot is relative.

No clue, but he's in the lineup as per IIHF game action.

Really?

Josi, Blindenbacher, Diaz, Streit, Bezina, Sbisa.

Probably von Gunten and Weber will be the 7th and 8th guys.

He was on their Olympic team in 2010. Would have been on their 2012 World Championship team if he wasn't injured.

They are fiesty and play smart.

I believe they have had a lot of Canadian influence over the past 10 years as well. Their head coach is Canadian too.

They've been referred to as "Canada-lite" (sounds like a slap in the face right now, but it's obviously not) a few years back and they are really coming around. Great development and they really work well as a team.
