I might get hanged in the tank by those that really hate raffi still.

I would sign Gomez. Not Torres. I am afraid that he is a "contract year" type player.

I would do a reasonable contract in a heartbeat and one of my favorite sayings is "Every saint has a past and every sinner has a future". He's shown himself to be a hardworking and hard hitting player while toeing but never actually crossing the line. So maybe 2 years, 2-2.5 mil

I want to say yes, but not if it costs us a chance at somebody better this offseason.

Until the hit against Chicago, this is how he played in Phoenix. He just finally admitted to himself that he needed to stop going for the big hit. Style wise though, he has always been like this.

If it wasn't too high of a contract, I would resign him. He is the type that is better suited for the playoffs.

I'd love for Raffi to stay. I love his style. Fast, gritty and physical as someone mentioned above. I hope we draw the blackhawks next round, because i'd love to see Raffi get real physical with those guys

Any rumors on what he's looking for? Who are the best comps?

Definitely would like to re-sign him. Would 2 or 3 yrs @ $2.25AAV be about right?

I was sick to my stomach when I first heard about the signing...

but he has earned respect and....

that OT goal in the first round got rid of any lingering nausea I had had.

Torres is a Shark, and a deserved one now.

I'm not familiar with his previous seasons, but I like what I see... hard worker, seems to find a way to be where the action is, and contributes. I am wondering if the Sharks can sign him now, as Thriller points out above.

If he does sign, there will probably be a significant increase of #13 jerseys in the stands.

Biggest unaddressed question, who are some comparable FAs this offseason? There probably aren't many tweeners like Torres. He doesn't look out of place on the 2nd line

I would actually say he does look out of place. One, that is our top line and it hasn't exactly produced at even strength that much. He does bring certain elements to the table but he's not really fitting in there. I think he would fit pretty well with Thornton and Burns on the 2nd line so he's a good tweener but he doesn't fit with Marleau and Couture.

I don't understand any reluctance to keep Torres. Whatever team he's been on he's made an impact. He plays great positional hockey. He's always where he should be. His anticipationis great. Not a great puckhandler, but makes things happen and always works hard. This wears off on those around him. He got screwed with that suspension last year. The hit was not dirty at all. He got nailed because he's been labeled and because of the result of the hit. How I long for the days when guys were lauded for catching someone with their head down. Now everyone on the ice is nervous about dealing out great checks for fear of being labeled like Torres. Wanna help the game crack down on BORING idiotic fighting, especially that which occurs now after someone gets hit hard and then feels like he has to come up swinging. Whatever happened to catching the guys number and nailing him later - cleanly. Or better, just like Couture coming back after getting nailed and scoring a huge goal. Little rant. Bottom line, keep Raffi. Love him on my team. Hate him on the other team. Best type of player you can have.

He scored big goals for Vancouver during their run and still wasn't very pricey. Torres has been good for us so far, but he must have a bad side that's scared off teams in the past. I wanna see more of him before we talk about re-signing the guy.

that's my concern... like when winnik was playing hardball in the offseason looking for big money, then settled for a lesser deal with anaheim

Torres is best with Pavelski on the third line, but it's nice to know that he can fill in on the second line with Jumbo and Burns

Could we sign anyone better than Torres? I like the guy and all, but I want another bonafide goal scorer.

I haven't read through the thread, but anything around three years, $2.5M per would be great.
