I think I'd rather keep Smid and try to move Petry. Maybe give up a better prospect. I like these moves though.

One year of Kunitz as the centerpiece of a deal for that pick is a little weak.

How about signed to an extension for 2 more seasons along with domoulin who would have played top-4 mins this season but there wasnt space along with a pick.

Ehh. I don't think him coming with an extension is all that realistic. I would assume Kunitz would be looking for a big pay day after next season and the Oilers wouldn't really be able to manage it with the money they already have on the wings.

I also think that the Oilers would only be trading that pick for a center or defenseman.

Kunitz is a big upgrade as the #2LW, but they'd still have gaping holes at center(especially with RNH probably missing the beginning of the season) and at D.

There would likely be better players to target than Kunitz if the pick was in play. He'd good, but he does play with the best C in the game.

A big 2C or a top pairing D man would probably be the targets. Now if you wanted to talk Letang for the 7th+ ...

Do you have a source that says Rantaa is lined up for the Flames?

Nope they have Karri Ramo and Reto Berra.

“The goaltender was a huge piece of the trade,” said Flames GM Jay Feaster. “When we did the deal for (Michael) Cammalleri last year, our pro scouts and our European scouts, we kind of had a bit of a divide — it was the two best goalies in the game not playing in the National Hockey League. A lot of our guys felt it was Karri Ramo. We had other guys say, ‘You know what? Ramo is great but jeepers, this Reto Berra is the best.’

Buy out Horcoff and Smyth

That would be bold enough I think

Hall Nuge Yak
Lucic Schenn Simmonds
Foligno Adam Stallberg
Brown Gordon Torres
Lander

Striet Schenn
Smid Schultz
Emelin Komiserek
Klefbom Potter

Miller
Griess

Didnt figure out the cap numbers but I think the team would be bad ass
good job sneaking that one in there. All three Buffalo players have more value than any Oilers player involved.

Anyone here interested in Anton Volchenkov?

Devils fans talking that he might be a buyout candidate, we could probably acquire him in a trade pretty easily or sign him if he gets bought out.

Big physical defenceman, basically Smid. Physical, blocks all the shots, good skating ability, fantastic in his own end.

I wouldn't mind running something like:

Smid-Petry
Volchenkov- JSchultz
Fistric-Ference/Scuderi/Lydman

And then who knows, if Klefbom plays lights out in camp we could give him Fistric's spot. If not, the a year or so of AHL for Klef till he is ready.

My understanding is that the version of Volchenkov you described is long gone.

The one you described is the type of D-man I'd love on this team, but that version of Volchenkov hasn't been seen in New Jersey for a long time.

I'd love to add a RHD defensive D-man this offseason (I have it in my mind that we add Yandle or some other LHD puck mover), but finding one is always tough.

Remember when everyone was all "PAUL MARTIN IS AWFUL AND NOT WORTH HIS CONTRACT SO LETS NEVER TRADE FOR HIM" and then he's been great for Pittsburgh all year?

The problem is, Martin struggled for one season. Volchenkov has had multiple seasons of uninspired play. He looks timid and his normally sound defensive acumen doesn't seem to be there.

For the record, I would've given Martin another shot. Same with Myers (writing off a 23 y/o with his tools is absurd).

I wonder if Brooks Orpik could be had from the Pens though...

Myers definitely has the physical tools; problem is that he doesn't necessarily have a strong set of mental ones

After watching this Tor-Bos series I can't help but wonder WTF happened to Lucic. I wouldn't even give up Hemsky for him at this point with his cap hit going up to 6M next year.

I'd still take him, he could be playing injured? Either way he'd bring some elements to the team that we sorely lack. I surely wouldn't deal any of our big 5 for him though.
