Gus with just over 27 minutes of ice time today in a 2-0 win over slovakia, no points. Loui Eriksson the next highest swede with 20:25 of ice time. no one else on the team broke the 20 minute mark, though Tallinder was close.

playoffs would have been much better for his development obviously but i think this will do him some good too, playing in a big role.

Two pretty good additions for the US team. Galchenyuk and Oshie are probably on the taxi squad for Sochi so both have some incentive to be there.

I don't think they have taxi squads anymore.

I'm not sure but I was more so saying both will probably get camp invites for Sochi but will probably be on the outside looking in at this point.

I heard that there will be a taxi squad since the Olympics are being held outside of NA

Gustafsson is playing HEAVY minutes. That's what we want to see from him. This last stretch through the end of the season and into the World Championships has been the best thing for his development we could have hoped for outside of a lengthy postseason run.

A lot of people here remain cautiously optimistic about his potential walking into next season, but I'm all aboard the Gus train.

Depending on what happens with Meszaros, our top 6 for next year is pretty much already locked up.

Why did Luke Schenn get tossed from today's game?

Checking from behind resulting in an injury is an automatic 5min major and a game misconduct.

I really think people are overrating Gus on these boards. He's not a Kimmo replacement. He's a 5th or 6th defensemen at best. He still is not a consistent player which is why he jumped from the AHL/NHL all year long.

I've really liked Justin Faulk in this tournament for the US. This is the second year in a row he's had a good WC on a larger ice surface. I would say he's got a good shot at making Sochi.

I don't think anyone is calling him a Kimmo replacement. Just hoping he can be a solid 3/4/5.

If Gus improves enough that the Flyers trust him getting big minutes, then its huge need the Flyers wont have to overpay another team for. But having the same top 6 on the Blue Line as last year im not sure is a good thing right now. They really struggled in the transition game.

who ever said that. most people think he's a good 3rd pairing guy with a top 4 future if he continues to improve. saying he's been playing well for a while now and deserves a spot on the roster next season is not overrating him.

I don't think Gus will ever be an anchor of a pairing but I do think he could be a nice complimentary piece at the 4th, 5th, or 6th spot.

I've seen some people get a little carried away with the Gus hype but never heard anyone say anything about him being a Kimmo replacement.

How has Simmonds been this tournament? I can see that he isn't racking up the points, but l haven't seen any games except for parts of the game against Sweden. I think the WC is boring, but I'm still curious.

Another Bryz breakaway special. I've never seen a goalie get beaten so badly to the point of not being able to react with such frequency.

Outside of that, he had some pretty big stops. Also, even though he does suck at breakaways, you still shouldn't take away the fact that it was a well placed shot as well.

I don't think Bryz will be making Sochi for Russia. He hasn't been bad this tournament but he hasn't been earth shattering neither. I believe most seem to think Valry already has the inside track for the starting role.

I just feel like he'll be the next Randy Jones for us before his terrible contract. I like his game but I think his ceiling is a 5th or 6th defensemen with second unit pp time. That's not bad at all considering he was a college free agent.
