Price is very good but he is not elite. He is not quite consistent enough to be elite. Price has all the physical tools to be elite though. Just to go back to the Ottawa series....and I know team effort had much to do about it too......but Anderson was more consistent from game to game than Price was. I won't knock Price too much in that series but he could certainly elevate his game further.
This is the thing....I think Price has all the tools, he just isn't there yet, not close, IMO.
No GM in the NHL would take Halak over Price. Even with his struggles the last 5-6 weeks.
Halak is well insulated in St.Louis but he can't stay healthy/consistant enough to carry the mail. He's lost the #1 job to both Allen and Elliott this year.
Price did not get a lot of help last year and he did well to have solid stats. This year with a lot more help(less shots and better defense) until Emelin got hurt.
I(and Bergevin) would make that Eller-Halak deal again any day and twice on Sundays.
ONLY thing I'm saying is that what we want for Price to become good is the EXACT same thing we're saying Halak had in St.Louis so he had no merit as far as his performance is concerned. They did win the Jennings not too long ago.
Your reply is not what I was saying. OF COURSE, everybody was more inclined to prefer Price over Halak. Because Halak had only 1 impressie playoffs and because Price was still filled with potential....the last 2 years DIDN'T happen when the trade was done. But that wasn't my point to begin with.
Point being, some keep mentioning our bad team to explain Price subpar performance, yet the same keep undervalued Halak performance based on how great his team was.....Doesn't make any sense to me.
