Roster has been trimmed

from the flyers website:

Flyers Assign 20 Players to Phantoms

The Philadelphia Flyers announced today that they have assigned the following players to their American Hockey League affiliate, the Philadelphia Phantoms:

Forwards (11)
Frederick Cabana, Daniel Corso, Riley Cote, Ben Eager, Matt Ellison, Triston Grant, Eric Meloche, Gino Pisellini, Ryan Potulny, Stefan Ruzicka, Denis Tolpeko

Defensemen (6)
Martin Grenier, Nate Guenin, Alexandre Picard, David Printz, Rosario Ruggeri, Jussi Timonen

Goaltenders (3)
Rejean Beauchemin, Martin Houle and Scott Munroe

In addition, the Flyers returned forward Steve Downie to the Peterborough Petes of the Ontario Hockey League and defenseman Oskars Bartulis to the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League.

The Flyers’ roster now stands at 26 players

I really haven't been following so if anyone could give me a recap as to the Phantoms goalie competition I would appreciate it.

Dear God, does that mean Randy Jones has a roster spot? Please tell me that isn't so. I DON'T see him on this list...

still carrying 8 dmen. he needs to go through waivers in order to make it to the phantoms so he'll be the last move made if he isn't making the team (which doesn't look like it's going to happen unless one of Gauthier/Baumgartner is dropped, as Jonsson appears to have a spot based on this).

They're going to try and trade him I imagine. Although Hitchcock does have his 8 defensemen philosophy, which you need in the playoffs to have any chance (should we get that far). Let's get a longer look at him now, that's what preseason is for.

I just wanted to look up Triston Grant on hockeysfuture, but he's not listed with Philadelphia. Does anyone know why? And does he have potential as a bottom six power forward? Thanks for any info!

i'd rather bank on Picard being that much better by the time the playoffs are here... cannot hold 8 dmen under the cap, and -- without having seen him play -- i really want Jonsson on this roster.

I honestly can't tell you why he's not listed.

Hey Al! You screwed us out of a prospect!!

And no, he won't be a power forward. He's shown that he can be used on the PK, but he needs to improve in just about every other area: skating, fighting, scoring touch.

Lars made the team then

Its funny about Jones though. He might not get to play at all except in practices as the 8th D. Contrast that to Picard who was sent down in order to get big minutes.

Now watch as Hitch plays Jones and we get to watch Jonsson ride the pine.

He may not have yet, I think they still have to cut/send down 3 more players. It will probably be 1D and 2F's, but I guess it could possibly be 3F's also.

That will be very shortlived.
