Both surprise teams of the season are done. Habs and Ducks.

Zetterberg is a better captain, and a much better forward, than I gave him credit for. Abdelkader still has some of the offensive instinct he showed when he played in his first playoffs. Nyquist is surprisingly effective; if he starts to finish his chances, the Hawks are in trouble.

OTOH, I had faith in Howard and I voted Wings in 7 in the series thread, so I feel vindigatored .

By 7th seeds that were injury plagued and had to play rookies during the regular season.

That was quite literally the worst 7 game series I've seen -- probably in the post lockout series.

A poorly coached Ducks team got up 3-2 without any contributions from a couple big guns... Their goalie let in a bunch of softies in game six and seven.

The Wings, meanwhile, tried hard to give this game away... Like they tried to give away games 2 and game 6.

It felt like two teams competing to lose.

Well that as a nailbiter lol what a fantastic series for both teams. Neither team gave up until the very end and that is what a Playoff series should be like. Kudos to the Anaheim Ducks and their fans for making it fun and entertaining and at times scary, hope to meet you guys in the Finals some year!

Chicago scares me lol but if Detroit can raise their level of play like they did the past two games and the defense can buckle down, they could probably take it. Should be exciting and nerve-wrecking for sure.

You can't disappear like that in the playoffs after the payday he just got. Add in the "extra curriculars", and it was definitely a playoffs to forget for Perry.

fitting that we get to see it one last time before stupid realignment kills a rivalry.

I always think the Penguins could have had Get's and Howard in 2003..

Howard has been so strong for the Wings, I hope he can keep it up.

Time for some Booze!!

At least the Canadiens became injury plagued during the series. What's Anaheim's excuse?

Eh this rivalry doesn't compare to the ones Detroit had with Toronto and Montreal

Wasn't there a thread mid-season which asked if the Ducks (who had the best start only behind Chicago) peaked too early? It seems now that that might've been true. They finished the season not playing their best hockey and the Red Wings, conversely, were playing their best hockey. The hotter team ended up winning once again, so, in that way, maybe we shouldn't be that surprised at the outcome.

To sum up the series:

Gamechanger of this series was when Lydman got injured. Things really got *****ed up when Sbisa and Allen was Duck's 3rd pairing and got matched up against Datsyuk and/or Zetterberg. That did not end well I also think Hiller got outplayed by Howard.

But, today, better team won and that's it. There are no what-ifs remaining..

Again, as many times before with these two teams.

What a series!

My personal opinion is that it's a real shame that one of these two had to be eliminated in this round. Both teams could have won, and deserved to win.

Of course I'm happy Detroit did.

Talking about the refs, did a great job today. They let the teams play.

It's been bad earlier in the series, both ways.

Great series. Very evenly matched.

The Ducks played hard and either team easily could have taken this. Congrats to the Ducks on a good season, defying lots of people's expectations. I will miss this rivalry next year and beyond.

Obviously very relieved the Wings won, bring on Chicago - that will be a very tough series.

I personally thought the Wings were in deep when Dek went down with his thumb..

He should be back for the Finals ..
