Never trailed in the series, never lost by more than a goal, lost three games in overtime. The Habs got thumped, the Ducks just couldn't finish it when they had the chances and it cost them.

In a fitting way, I would say the Ducks proved a lot of the "unsustainable" crowd wrong. They gave up a lot of weird goals this series, not a ton of prime scoring chances, and their depth scoring kept them in it. Their best players didn't show up when they needed to, and that's what sunk them in the end.

As much as the refs weren't great the first 2 games of the series they really let the boys play the later games and were better. Even without a pp last game it's not like the wings had a ton.

If i see one ducks fan blame this series on reffing or the refs being in Detroit's pocket, i'm going to rip my hair out and look like Getzlaf.

As much as i don't think the better team won the series the better team in game 7 won the series and unfortunately it got to game 7.

Ducks showed no heart tonight. Wings deserved to win this game and overall they were the better team. Wings vs Hawks is gonna be a great series.

Boudreau! But really, a surprisingly decent series against a very formidable team. The series was dictated by bounces and breaks but obviously thrilled to see the Wings come around and take it in the end. Perry was a no-show for the Ducks, and he's really their only cog I disliked because of past history versus the Wings.

Hope Selanne sticks around for another and props to the young guns that Anaheim has coming up in Etem, Bonino and many other pieces that look to be contributors long terms in their plans. No longer to me are the Ducks defined by Pronger elbows and Niedermayer's consistently dominating presence.

Let the "unsustainable" discussion begin. Should be a fun watch.
If you predicted that Perry wouldn't score a goal and that Ryan and Selanne would be invisible, hats off to you. But any prediction of the Ducks' demise likely involved predictions of depth scoring drying up completely and their defense being exposed as a terrible unit. Neither happened.

The Wings, meanwhile, tried hard to give this game away... Like they tried to give away games 2 and game 6.

It felt like two teams competing to lose.
You are crazy, that was an amazing and intense series. Yes there was a lot of mistakes made from both teams, but that happens when the pace is so fast and everyone is playing their hearts out.

Even if Detroit had lost I would have been glad we made the playoffs just because atleast I got to see this series. Highly entertaining, nerve-wrecking and action packed.

Good series Ducks, unfortunate one of these teams had to go so soon.

Couple of series notes:

* I predicted the Wings 3rd line could come up big, and it did. Love those kids.
* Etem is a beast. Most scary player on that Anaheim team in this series.
* Both goalies had an uneven series, but in the end Howard came out on top with solid Game 6 and 7 performances.
* Getzlaf was great, Perry and Ryan not so much. Datsyuk and Zetterberg both delivered in a big way.
* Both teams had some struggles on defense. Didn't think we'd win without Dekeyser, but Cola was solid when he came in.
* Brendan Smith will be torn to pieces against the skilled Chicago team.
* Teemu is probably done. Will be sad to see him go, but I think it's time. You could tell he got worn out throughout this series and he wasn't much of a factor the last couple of games. Great career and great guy.

Dekeyser getting hurt was a blessing in disguise.

Babcock, unfortunately, wasted a couple games on Lashoff.... but once he dumped Lashoff and inserted Colaiacovo, for the most part, our D was much improved,

Nobody was yelling for some semblance of a youth movement more than I was...but having Kindl, Smith and Dekeyser/Lashoff out there ... it was just asking too much from our D.

Our D had their best game by far tonight. Very composed. Very few moments.
Kindl and Smith both had their best defensive games of the playoffs

Claimed all season long that Anaheim was primed to go out in the first round.

Congrats to Detroit.

Close, bad hockey is still bad hockey.

Dude, I've watched a lot of playoff hockey in my life. This was bad hockey.
Poor goaltending from the Ducks when it counted.
Horrible defense from both teams for much of the series. A lack of really nice place.
Complete collapses and meltdowns.

As for the series, I'm still somewhat stunned. The Wings have been a patchwork of rookies, a few core players, and some old boomerang Wings. I didn't know what to expect but Z, Dats, and Jimmy stepped up when they needed to, the rookies played well overall, and Abby scored on a shorthanded breakaway??

I'm not trolling or trying to pour salt in the wound, just discuss the game, but I was surprised by the Ducks lack of intensity. I figured they'd come out flying and trying to put every Wings player through the glass.

He's just having fun.

I'll try to give a fair assessment. Ducks are in dire need of pm dman. Or a true number 1. Detroit pinned you way too easily in the 3rd. Those getzlaf icings hurt too.

What impressed me was your bottom 6. Etem proved he belongs, big game bonino is finding his role.

Top 6 is a different story. Koivu and selanne are great, but ducks need to seriously start looking for their replacements. Perry and Ryan were huge disappointments. Perry especially, he looked like the 3rd sedin sister and not the hart winner he was a few years ago. Mental thing. Something's bothering him not hockey related. He needs to figure it out.

Yeah, I guess I missed that my first read through. Being up at 1:30 is tough on my eyes.

Congrats to Detroit.
Like I asked another poster, did you claim their top players would disappear(excluding Getzlaf), or that their depth scoring would prove to be unsustainable and their defense would be a huge letdown? The latter didn't happen, the former did, so don't claim you called anything.
