Your shut down C doesn't sit healthy in the playoffs, only an idiot would do that. Not only that, Bolland himself said he was only 50% towards the end of last series along with every other reporter and the coach...nice try MM.
He is no longer a shut down C, IMO and what would you expect anyone to say? I'm healthy and scratched?
Yes, and why so surprised? You do realize that it happens all the time, or do you? Itís called balancing out your line up. If the NHL was only about pure talent, the average size per team would likely be reduced by 10, 20 or more pounds per player. Size and physicality matters, no matter how much you try to ignore it.
OK, let's bring back John Scott then.
The better player will play, you don't insert scrubs just to make your 4th line tougher for 5mins a game. Not in the playoffs anyway.
I went to practice today and Saad wore the red jersey which identifies him as in the top six. Stalberg, Bollig & Mayers wore white jerseys which probably signifies they will not be playing in game one.
Handzus did not practice today, and Bolland wore a red jersey. The color of jerseys in practice isn't set in stone where guys will or will not play.
I wouldn't be shocked if Ben Smith plays 1 or 2 games in the Detroit series. He looked very good in practice today.
Even the biggest Kruger fan must have realized that his spot was in jeopardy when Handzus was acquired Ė with Bolland ready to return, that is a definite possibility. That said, now that it has been established that we will face Wings, chances are Carcillo and Bollig sit. Now, if Ducks had emerged instead of Wings, chances are Carcillo dresses. Of course, injuries can change everything.
From Q's perspective, thatís how I see it, logically.
Scratching him just to send a message is dumb. Scratching because he needs a message PLUS someone else is really showing something, ok. So yeah, I'll be looking for a strong game from his replacement if this happens.
