Jani Lajunen, who played this past season with Milwaukee and Peoria of the AHL, has signed with Vaxjo of the Elitserien in Sweden. Lajunen, 22, was a 7th round pick, 201st overall, of Nashville in 2008 before being traded this past season for Scott Ford. Lajunen had 2 goals and 7 points in 59 games in the AHL this past season. He is scheduled to become an RFA this summer. His deal in Vaxjo is for 2 years and contains an NHL out clause.

Capgeek has moved both Alex Stalock (SJS) and Jussi Rynnas (TOR) to their UFA list, so I have done the same.

Niko Hovinen, who played in the AHL with Oklahoma City and the ECHL with Trenton, has signed with Metallurg Novokuznetsk of the KHL. Hovinen, 25, began the season on a contract with Philadelphia before being placed on termination waivers, but before the Flyers could buy him out, he was claimed by the Oilers. In 9 games in the AHL, Hovinen posted a 3.26 GAA and a Save PCT of .884. Originally a 5th round pick, 132nd overall, of Minnesota in 2006, the 6'06" goaltender is scheduled to become an UFA this summer.

Does anyone know when the deadline for qualifying RFAs is?

Per capgeek, Tom Sestito has now qualified for Unrestricted Free Agency, rather than being a RFA.

Capgeek has him listed as an RFA. Would the fact that he was placed on unconditional waivers by Philadelphia affect his free agency status?

I don't think so. RFAs are free to sign with teams in Europe, just like UFAs. That said, I do think it will be a moot point anyways, as I'm 95% positive that the Oilers won't qualify Hovinen and he'll become an UFA regardless.

what are the chances that mike ribero, andy mcdonald, nathan horton, michael ryder, ron hainsay, robyn regher, rob scuderi, douglas murray, ray emery, and mike smith make it to free agency and the chances the isles are lucky to get 2 of them that don't play the same position

It's too early to tell you what the chances are. If LA rolls all the way to the finals again, you know they'll make pitches to keep both Regehr and Scuderi. Same with Chicago and Emery, Washington with Ribeiro, Horton with Boston and Murray in Pittsburgh. So it's pretty early to tell.

God I hope the Leafs can get Scuderi. He is exactly what this team needs.

Not technically under contract last year, but...Kenndal McArdle, former first round pick of Florida, has signed with Vasteras of Sweden after playing last season with Chicago's AHL affiliate in Rockford, on an AHL deal.

Could Michael Ryder make sense for Pittsburgh?

With Iginla and Dupuis coming off the books, could Ryder be that complimentary winger on Crosby's line?

No, in a weak free agency class someone will give him
Big 2nd line center money.

Ben Lovejoy said his agent and Ducks have had contract talks. Hopes something can be knocked out soon. "We're working on it."
I'm be surprised if something doesn't get done. Bruce Boudreau usually manages to get his favourites locked up by management, and Lovejoy was a revelation for the Ducks.

Niklas Hagman, the 33-year old is looking for nhl return. Hagman has played total of 770 nhl games. Can't think that there would be much interest though. His career has gone downhill pretty fast in the last couple of years. Last played with Ducks during 2011-2012 season before signing in khl this year.

Wouldn't bring him in as center, he didn't play this position for years

Especially as a checking line center. Too small, too easy to knock off the puck

Ryder completely quit playing in April to preserve himself for July 1st. I don't think he's going anywhere where he has to take a discount to play. He's going to the highest bidder.

Per a pretty much impossible to read (The Cape?!) translated article, per Elite Prospects, says that Jyri Niemi is close to signing with HPK of Finland. Niemi, 22, was a 3rd round pick, 72nd overall, of the NY Islanders in 2008, before being traded to the NY Rangers when the Islanders weren't going to sign him. Niemi has struggled to even stick in the AHL, splitting his last two years between the AHL and ECHL. He is scheduled to become a RFA this summer, though I expect the Rangers won't qualify him and he'll become an UFA.

Elite Prospects now lists this signing as confirmed.

Also, Jeff Taffe, who played last year for Hershey of the AHL on an AHL deal, has signed with Linkoping of Sweden.
