He was tied for 6th in scoring by d-men this season

He was good in the series but really took over when gardiner was paired with him. No defensive gaffes, 4-5 huge hits and a lot of offense generated. Gardiner's speed really complements him.

He was my favorite defenseman in game 6. I think he played his best game ever and I dont expect him to play that well again but he looked like a good #3.

Gardiner and him look phenomenal together.

It's too bad we've got to sign he and Gunnarsson this offseason, 3.5+ million a piece easily.

He's always had a knack for getting it through when it looked impossible.

We called it the seeing eye shot...

He's always been a stud offensively. He has a wrister with eyes, good passing and can QB a PP.

Just look at Nashville. He'd be a top 4 there easily. They gave up on the wrong dman unfortunately.
Top 4 easily?

I like Franson but I don't know if he's any better than Bartley right now. He's better offensively but it takes more than that to play in the top 4. He's not better than Weber, Josi or Klein so I know he wouldn't replace any of those guys.

Toronto seems to be a good place for "struggling" players to go to despite the media scrutiny. I don't mean that with all of them but some fare really well in Toronto

Lupul, Franson, Macarthur, Van Riemsdyk, O'byrne, Fraser, and the list goes on.

Unfortunately O'bryne has not been one of them lol

He was solid last night.... amazingly. However his level of play has been awful to mediocre since being acquired

really hate poile for giving up Franson for nothing. I hate that trade as much as the day it happened.

Best part is that Lombardi is still playing... Gotta love hindsight dont ya Poile...

I wanted this guy on the Bruins before he got traded to Toronto.

He's been awesome in this series for the Leafs.

He's no longer under rated.

He's gone from being an elite 3rd pairing guy, who can play the 2nd PP very well,
to being a second pairing defence, who doesn't look out of place on the 1st PP.

Didn't Leaf nation want to move him for futures earlier this year? C'mon now.

Every single time I've seen the Leafs play this year, including all of the playoff games, Franson has stood out.

He's extremely good at reading plays and intercepting passes in his own zone. Guys only getting better.

Yes, we collectively polled all Leafs fans and came to a consensus. That's how we do things in Toronto.

A late 1st or an early 2nd would have had me and probably most leaf fans driving Franson to the airport without a second though before the season started, glad we were proven wrong this guy has definitely surpassed expectations.

More than made up for it with a goal and some great defense afterwards though

Well, I bumped this up at the perfect time.

He had a bad giveaway but that's probably the biggest blunder I have seen him make in a while.

And he redeems himself with 2 goals so far.

The reason why I think he is one of the more underrated players in the league is because he was constantly getting so much flack from everyone and few people even thought he was hardly an NHL calibre d-man.

I didn't like the trade then and still don't like it. I would have preferred Blum traded.

Really? You seemed to think it was necessary before...

i don't understand how you can overlook:
1) we were on the hook for 2 more years with 7 million dollars owed on a contract that was unisured.
2) the minute we acquired fisher, lombardi was redundant, esp with the center depth we have. while it may not be sexy, we can roll solid centers n every line.
3)cody franson is a third pair dman. we have replaced him with a third pair dman in hillen. and even with franson being 6-4 or whatever and hillen being 5-7 or whatever, the physical presence is about the same. do we lose out on the pp? our power play sucked with him. at worst it sucks without him.
4)this was a cya trade. poile didn't want to be on the hook for the money if lombardi got hurt again. while matt may be a good player, he is a hit away from being marc savard, and we can't afford that.
5) cody is an rfa after this year as well i think. i would guess he would command 2 million or so. why would we want to pay him that when we have 1 million dollar options in house? plus we have more important rfas to worry about, and not weber-sk, wilon, blum, etc.
