So about the thought process of Blum being able to easily replace Franson on the roster

LOL! I had forgotten about that. In fact, the conventional wisdom from the Poile crowd was that "Blum had already surpassed Franson."

I haven't really watched Franson this season, seems to be coming into his own and has a couple of bright spots tonight. It's clear that Blum is not better than Franson.

I chuckled earlier when they said........"Franson.......acquired along with Matthew Lombardi in exchange for Brett Lebda and Robert Slaney."
That's the most absurd trade ever.

Had to search around but found a few gems:

It was a salary dump, plain and simple. Poile needed to get rid of Lombardi's contract, and adding Franson to the deal was the price.

Doesn't make the pieces any less absurd.

Bergeron scores the tying and winning goal and Boston wins and nobody will remember that Franson scored 2 in this game. Franson was -2 and on the ice when the Bruins won. Great comeback by the Bruins and meltdown by the leafs.

Yeah, everyone saw the signs of Blum's regression right? Have all of your predictions on the future players been correct? I mean weren't you the big Ward fan?

Typical Franson. Scores some big goals but still a liability in his own zone. All 3 of the goals against he was on the ice for were mostly his fault too.

The bolded pretty much sums up your assessment. You admit to not watching players, then try to slam people based on carefully selected snippets that fit your biases.

Franson played a significant role in tonight's game ... positively with his goals scored, negatively with the goals allowed while on the ice. The big question is who gets slammed more in the Toronto press for their role in the meltdown ... Phaneuf or Franson? Reimer's public flame session is a given.

Franson developed better than most of us expceted. Blum developed 100 times worse than most of us expected, though I think he'll rebound.

At the time of the trade, I absolutely trade Franson before Blum. Now, you keep Cody. Hindsight is 20/20.

Franson has always been flamed here for his softness and always will be. Fact is we gave up a fantastic specialist for nothing. Franson is playing tougher minutes then he should be recently. Put him where he belongs, third pair 1st or 2nd PP unit, and he does wonders.

I still love Franson's shot. It's a thing of beauty to watch.

feel kinda bad for Erat(0-0-0 in 4 playoff games then hurt) but at the same time I suspect we look back in a couple of years and realize Marty did us a huge favor by asking for the trade while he still had substantial value.

Franson's assist on the series clincher was a thing of beauty.

people here are gonna be very very sore when all the kids we have don't light the world on fire. Look how long it took to get wilson, klein, etc into NHL productivity. whoever at 4 and forsberg aren't gonna light it up. the kids Blum-Ellis-Bartley-Watson, they will get better, just not overnight.

Franson was a big reason why we got past Anaheim with his timely goals. Also, he scored as many points vs Boston as anyone on our team did in 2 rounds last year.

He would have helped us out significantly this year, especially on the PP. He's decent at even strength and has been constanly improving.

You can go down the list of defenseman who could've played a particular play better in the playoffs, starting with Weber, Suter, Hamhuis, Klein, Phanueuf, etc.

It was a very bad move by Poile to give him up for nothing.

and Vokoun goes to 3-0.....

as long as he keeps playing well I dont see anyone in the East giving the Pens any trouble... Boston used up 8 of their 9 lives last night

Pen-Hawks for the Cup would be really entertaining...

Once again, Poile didn't give him up for nothing. He was the price that Poile had to pay to unload Lombardi's contract.

Hey, Vandy won the Music City bowl and kicked the **** out of Tennessee last year (which was much sweeter than the bowl win IMO).

I'm not a big baseball fan but the Sounds won the PCL Championship in 2005.
