Oates is not the problem. Get real people. This happens every
Its the collective bunch of players that is the problem. No doubt. But Oates' coaching style, IMO, isn't a fit for these guys either. So we either get rid of the core or we have a coach like Hunter who can get these guys to battle hard every damn second.
Really, we're the Dallas Cowboys of the NHL:
- We have a team that gets picked to do well at the beginning of every season.
- We have our stars who rack up the stats in the regular season but fail to show up in games we need them the most (Romo, DWare)
- We have a GM who is just as meddlesome as Jerrah and perhaps just as clueless
I'm sure we'll see some pics of our superstar with his girlfriend in Cabo two days from now.
"No NHL team has lost more playoff series as the higher seed in the last 30 years than have the Caps (10 times), lost more three or four overtime playoff games (four), or lost more series in which they led by two games (eight)."
Must win tonight. This depressing playoffs nonsense must stop now.
Make that 11, and 9.
I haven't double-checked the numbers in this article. I don't want to.
I think I'll need a psychiatrist after this one. Gonna get a head-start and borrow a Xanax from my girlfriend right now I think.
Is it better than being a Caps fan in the 70s, when for the first 8 years or whatever it was we couldn't even get into the playoffs, despite the fact that almost every team, at least for some of those years, got in? Like in at least a couple of those first 8 years, 16 teams got in and 5 teams didn't or something ridiculous like that. It was kind of hard, but kind of funny too. Just beating Montreal or Boston for the first time in franchise history felt incredibly great.
This feels worse right now than those completely bad teams. This tendency to choke away 2-game leads feels not right. Why did we wind up with the team that does THAT? It's just, I dunno, gross.
Glad we got a Presidents' Trophy. I guess I can be happy for the fact that I'm not one of these people that can't derive entertainment value out of the regular season, because there have been a few great regular season teams in DC that were very entertaining. Probably I die before the Caps get a Cup though.
Agree with the sentiments about overreacting after Montreal. What a team we had that year. What a team. Don't remember a more entertaining team since, y'know, like, the Gretsky Oilers probably, or the Lemieux Penguins I guess.
