Also, Pens and Sid advanced.. and if BOS and NYR advance tonight.. It'll be NYR/BOS.. Gary Bettman will be the happiest man on earth if BOS and NYR win tonight. Ratings for Round 2 will set records..

Tonight's predictions

Washington 7.3.. (Nationals play late)
NYR 6.8 (No NYK, no NYY, just NYM, who are no threat) imagine if the NYR were able to score goals and didn't play boring games?? they'd be getting 9.9 tonight instead of 6.8.

Boston 17.6.. (No Redsox.. only thing on in BOS)
If these are your predictions, you are in for a bad day tomorrow.

That's low for ANA.

Any NY or CBC rating?

2.2 for the Isles is a solid rating on Saturday, with the Knicks on.

Holy cow..I thought we started this ratings stuff in 2008-09?
We've been doing it since 2007?

LOL we have tremendous progress...a 4.5 in Pittsburgh, now looks weak, yet then it was considered by total NHL standards to be fantasic.?
Also where on andrewstars page does he have old ratings?

Anybody have links for all the other seasons and can we include this one in the first post

Was under 2 so it seems low... but 100K is respectable.

I'll give my predictions for tonight as well.

Boston gets a 12.4, Washington gets a 5, and New York gets a 3.

If LA keeps winning then their ratings would improve but Lakers have won so many championships it's hard to compete with them. Consider they won like 16x compare to 1x for the Kings then the TV ratings seem to match the championship ratio 16x to 1x.

I think hockey can sell there, they just have to keep winning. The California 2nd round series will may get stronger ratings.

if the Bruins and Rangers win, then Bettman will have instant chub city!!

Hawks vs Wings is the best scenario the NHL could of had for the West..

and if it turns into Boston vs NYR...holy crap will that be huge...

For the Rangers anything over a 5 is not unrealistic. There is no competition from what I'm aware?......WSH I'll say 6-7. Boston I got at 15. They'll rally. Especially since these games are just from yesterday its fresh in everybody's mind. Tonight is a great night for the NHL to sell the game. And going forward if it's Bos vs Wsh or NYR still good for the NHL. Though take into account BLT in the WSH region they usually do respectable ratings for Caps games. So I'll want to see that rating also.

Last nights Bruins game drew a 14.3 (game 6).

Last year's game 7 vs. Washington drew a NESN Bruin's record of 19.6.

My prediction for tonight: 18.2

There was an amazing article i read with Mark Cuban. He said once he wanted to buy the Pens and then said that people in US don't realize that hockey ratings beat NBA ratings. he explained that in box office movie sales, they don't include only US. they include Canada, too. If we look at Toronto game 6, they got 4.5 million in Canada.. now if we add the US and if it was on NBC, you'd get probably another 1 million.. that's 5.5 million So basically, if we go by North America and not America only, the NHL gets better ratings than the NBA.. In the BOS/VAN SC final, didn't Canada get like 6 million, plus the 9 or so million in the US i believe.. that's 15 million, which is more than most NBA finals..(sorry if my numbers are off by a bit)

So basically, he's right. Hockey does get better ratings in N.America than basketball. Why don't we go by that instead of just US? It's still money coming in, no??

These games were on at the same time. How can the viewers be counted towards both? It's hard to believe that the Kings series almost had as many viewers as the Canucks.

Wonder if Boston rating hit a high of 25 with that great come back.

i hope you all watched that TOR/BOS game. i've watched 43,239 hockey games in my life and i swear, i have never seen anything like this. I have no idea how many ppl have CNBC in america, because i sure hope alot of ppl saw this game. i hope it wasn't only viewed by 130,000 ppl, not incl Boston. what a game!!!

Now the big question is... what will attract more viewers, BOS/NYR, or CHI/DET?? now that's a tough one. How happy is Bettman now? 4 original six teams just on these 2 games here. wow. And the NHL record in rating this yr is BOS/NYR with 956,000. This playoff can't get any better. Every team that is good for ratings and has big market is in.. OTTAWA is ruining it all.

Of the 8 remaining teams..

1- NY (1st biggest market)
2- LA (2nd biggest market)
3- CHI (3rd biggest market)
4- PIT (23rd biggest market, but draw same #'s as 4th biggest market)
5- SJ (6th biggest market)
6- BOS (7th biggest market)
7- DET (11th biggest market)

As we speak, Bettman is eating Filet Mignon and washing it down with a bottle of Dom Perignon and screaming with joy.

From a TV stand point the NHL has to be pretty happy with the way things have played out so far...

Pittsburgh vs Ottawa... Probably would have preferred Montreal simply for the better ratings up here in Canada. Ottawa has looked good so far and could upset Pittsburgh. Ottawa could prove to be the fly in the ointment for the league as far as TV is concerned.

Boston vs NY... I doubt the league would have slit its wrists if Washington won but it can't get much better than this for them.

Pittsburgh vs either of these two teams in the ECF has to be a dream matchup for the league

Chicago vs Detroit... Only way this is better for the league is if it's a conference final instead of a semi final.

LA vs SJ... I don't think it will deliver great ratings nationally (even buy hockey's low standards) or even great numbers locally (compared to what other teams in their respective markets gererally pull) but it still has to be better for the league than Vancouver vs St Louis. Could the natural North/South California rivarly create additional buzz with people who generally don't care about hockey? The fact that LA's NBA teams are both long gone and the baseball teams are doing pretty bad could also help. Both huge markets so that can't hurt. At the very least it's certainly a nice way to continue to build the league's profile in the state after LA's championship last year.

I would think a WCF of Chicago vs LA is the best possible scenerio for the league.

LA-SJ ratings will be bad. LA is obvious, but SJ is playing on the same days as the Warriors. For at least the first two games, it will have to be casual fans.

They may not get the ratings of CHI/DET or NY/BOS, but it's still two large US markets with pretty solid fan bases. And they're rivals. The western matchups are probably one of the best case scenarios from a ratings standpoint for the NHL.

Heart wrenching loss for Leafs fans. Whereas NBC is obviously happy with a Boston/NY matchup, had the Leafs won, CBC ratings would have been absolutely thru the roof in the next round and perhaps beyond...something the financially hurting public broadcaster was in dire need of.
