I don't know what's more surprising...that this discussion won't go on for a few more weeks before it's concluded or that BBO actually won an avatar bet!

I think the only option is to display what ever avatar BBO chooses, and then plaster that image with asterisks.

at any point, i concede and am at the mercy of BBO for one month
A broken finger helped your cause, had he been healthy he would've easily eclipsed the 12.03% that he shot this season and maybe enough so that you would've conceded defeat earlier You can have your moral victories, I'll take real ones and own your avatar for a month There is much work to be done in constructing that beauty!

And what would be beside the asterisk? That .0000 = .0003? This isn't like Maris breaking Babe Ruth's record in more games played because of a longer season or Barry Bonds breaking Hank Aaron's record despite being full of performance enhancing drugs, this is pretty clear cut IMO.

I don't know why I even opened this thread again, and I REALLY don't know why I'm replying right now, but

First of all, I didn't say 4 extra decimal places, I said "to a 4th decimal place", meaning two more than what percent represents (per cent, or "per hundred"). Second...well, there isn't really a second, because everything you're saying here is arguing something I didn't say.

And if you had a bet about Hawaiian excise tax or GST, you'd be 100.03% correct, but I haven't seen anywhere that records shooting percentage to the ten-thousandth.

Not sure why you would mention 0.0002 when trying to make a point here if you indeed have no horse in this race? Why not do the real math instead of rounding down to try and prove a faulty point?
Alright, that was my bad. I used .0002 because I had in my head that 12.02% was the number you guys were arguing, but clearly I had it wrong (which is equally strange considering I used the right number everywhere else).

Well, that was an unfortunate typo. Of course, that's not what I meant to type. It should've read 11.99 < 12.00 < 12.03. I stand by everything else I said in that post though.

I guess the biggest difference here is that had it been 11.9999999999 I would've conceded defeat and taken my avatar with a small slice of humble pie.
And I would've made the same argument in your favour. Of course, any calculator I use would probably wouldn't have that many decimal places and would've rounded that last one, which would've equated to 12 even, so maybe not.

Anyway, this doesn't matter to me, and I've already put more time discussing it than it deserves. I don't even plan on opening this thread again.

Think of it as a shootout loss.

You know, I find a lot of these posts slagging him for what you call 'elementary arithmetic' sorta amusing.

The reason I say this, is because in any math you do, the amount of decimals you are going to use matters. 12% IS 12.03%. They didn't say 12.00%. And in math, that matters.

I'm not saying either side is right, but neither side is wrong either.

12 is not 12.03. 12% is 12.00000000000. It doesn't matter how many decimal places were stated

This ^, I've never known a whole number to equal anything other than having .000 repeating. There was no talk of rounding up or down, the line in the sand was 12% not 12.03%. As minute as .0003 is it is steal that much more than 12. It really is rather simple and I am far from a math genius.

This avatar bet resolution is taking on a geological pace. Maybe if jaded was banished to the leafs board for a month instead..

I'm kinda joking but would be kinda fun. Like a smokey cauldron of burning hell.

With all due respect and condolences jaded.

No, I don't want any one way plane tickets.

Was Eberle's broken finger actually confirmed? Why would he force himself to endure the WHC if his finger was actually broken?

He injured it early to mid season taking a shot, you could tell he was effected by something until the final 10 or so games of the season.

He's probably healed by now.

While not relavent to the discussion anymore, I must say that the level of precision when doing anything technical makes a huge difference. Mathmatically they might be the same, but because we as people cannot be that accurate, they are different.

12.0000 and 12 are vastly different things

You ask a machinist to make you something 12 inches, or to make you something 12.0000 inches you'll get different things... and the second one probably take twice as long to make, and cost you three times as much.

How many more times are people going to falsely claim this? It's the exact same. If I ask for something to be made 12 inches long, and it's 12.1, I'm not going to be very pleased
