I like the Charles pick. Unless you're going for an O-lineman or fullback that is going to step in right off the bat, you may as well go boom or bust. A "safe" pick at a skill position probably just ends up being a depth guy.

Random but I know Smith Wright personally, I throw shot put/discus/hammer for the U of C track team and he competes for the U of A team against me in addition to playing football. He's a good guy, I had no idea he was good enough to play professionally, but he's got a solid work ethic and all those "intangibles" HF posters love. So yeah I wouldn't have any idea what his chances would be of making the roster (I only really follow the NFL seriously, go Seahawks!), but you can at least bet that he'll give it 110% and he's the last guy you could ever expect any kind of locker room issues from. He missed this years CIS track season with a knee injury I believe so it's been a little while since I've caught up with him but I've been hearing from mutual friends that he's been putting a lot of work in to football over the last year.

Hervey talked Smith Wright saying they need a fullback and how they don't want to convert someone to fullback, but rather put someone there that knows the position and is willing. Wasn't sure how good he'd be, but they like him.

Who is this long snapper we drafted that is going to the NFL? Seems like an odd pick.

The long Snapper is Jorgen Hus - LB/LS - Regina

Steffan Charles is the guy headed to the NFL, I don't know about Hus.

Not to take anything away from the long snapper's role on a team, but isn't that kind of a stupid move?

With #Eskimos release of FB Peter Thiel, LB Kye Stewart and KR Steven Turner, expect some more signings, possibly another RB, after White.

http://www.sltrib.com/sltrib/blogsut...yards.html.csp

John White, Utah's work horse of a running back, is getting an opportunity at the pro level as he has agreed to a contract with the Edmonton Eskimos in the Canadian Football League, according to his representative, Derrick Fox.
The 5-foot-8 White was the only running back in Utah history to gain 1,000 yards in back-to-back seasons.

The Eskimos are the most successful franchise in the CFL, having won the Grey Cup 13 times.

No many teams have 1 player who only long snaps, even in the NFL it is a very important aspect that can be overlooked at times. I don't know alot on Hus but if he can recieve a NFL contract he must be a wicked long snapper. If he can contribute in other ways it will be a solid pick, if of course he doesn't make the Rams. Smith Wright played some TE/SB as well at UofA and has some good ball skills but needs to add some bulk and work on his blocking to be an effective pro. Hes a project with upside

@Dave_CHED 17m #Eskimos GM Ed Hervey says internal discussions have taken place about the possiblity of signing WR Manny Arceneaux. No specifics #CFL #yeg
Manny was fantastic for the Lions in 2009 and 2010. He was over 1000 yards recieving in '10.

There are two other teams after this guy. We'll see who gets him. We're strong at receiver so may not be as eager to sign him as the other suitors.

Eskimos add a few more non-imports to the roster.

Three Dinos in the first round, no Bears.
Linden was my sports performance year partner when I was in grade 10 and he was in 12. It was awesome cause I always had to overcompensate by trying way harder to not embarrass myself thought the year. He would warm up with my max weights for everything plus about 50 pounds. Fast too. Guy played a game at middle linebacker for our highschool team. Offensive and defensive line.

Just a freak in a good way. Hilarious guy, too.

they are really trucking along in regards to the seat replacement.
no idea if the esks will be good or bad this year, but at least I'll be more comfortable watching the games.
what a treat it's going to be to not have to see those ugly orange seats all year.

Just curious from one fan to another and I know you've been frustrated and afairc considering whether you would continue to attend. What has got you turned around and prepared to continue on.

I'm saying that in friendly terms and from the perspective of an ardent longterm fan that after decades has lost faith in this product. Somehow, my interest in the team is evaporating. Not that I want it to. I just don't have any hope in where the team is at. \

I'll probably end up going but right now this offseason I can't recall a time when I had less interest in the Esks.

It really is long past show me time for what has become a pathetic franchise.

Boy would it be nice to see the Eskimos sign Arceneaux. With Bowman being a huge question mark, a core of Arceneaux, Stamps, Coehoorn, Koch, and Chambers would be strong.

That's five guys who can make big catches and we also have a few bigger receivers in Coehoorn, Chambers, and Arceneaux. Add Bowman back into the mix and we'd have the best receivers in the league in my view.

Arceneaux isn't necessarily a must-get but given my lack of faith in Bowman's recovery (which is too bad as he is exactly what we need), he becomes a pretty attractive option. Worst case scenario we have too many receivers - that's a pretty nice luxury.

They also signed Jonathan Cromptom QB - Tennessee. This is a very good signing in my opinion. I've watched this guy play a bit before his draft year. I hope he gets enough reps to have a chance because he could push Nicholls if you ask me.
