Did Reimer blow his chance to make Team Canada?

imo Reimer had a huge chance to be a top 2 goalie for team Canada in 2014 and beyond, where he could be a backup and then win the starting position ala Luongo & Brodeur in 2010. Reimer already has experience in the world championships, so clearly they see him as a great goalie internationally, but after game 7, have his chances been affected in any way? Discuss

Also ***Mod, please change the title to indicate team canada at the olympics rather than the world championships

Not that he's a bad goalie, but I don't really think he ever had a chance to begin with.

completely disagree. If he was the starter at the world championships, he absolutely has the chance

Considering the 4 goals scored were not soft goals and a case can be made that they were the Ds fault, no it didnt hurt his chances. He still managed a +9.20 save % in both the season and playoffs. However, he is not ready to take the reigns as Canada's goalie, not until Luongo and Brodeur are really done and Price and Fleury keep up their poor play in big games.

I originally read this title and started laughing.. then I looked at who Canada has to pick from, and it's a depressingly fair question.

Along with Reimer, Canada has to choose from: Carey Price, MA Fluery, Roberto Luongo, Cam Ward, Mike Smith, Corey Crawford, Devan Dubnyk and Braden Holtby.

Pretty sad, to me anyways.

of those guys, I'd go with Luongo, Price and Holtby.

That's because all the good teams with the better goalies were in the playoffs, lol.

No effect on whatever little chance he had to begin with.

This.

When one of your biggest competitors has Henrik Lundqvist in net, James Reimer doesn't exactly inspire confidence.

He had a good year, but his rebound control is his very obvious downfall.

The only way Reimer would make the Canadian Olympic roster is if next season he were to put together a Vezina season and be hot going into the Canadian camp. He would really have to earn his way there.

Not saying he will either. Just saying that's what it would take.

For those laughing at the "better" options, the only Canadian goalie that outplayed him in the season and playoffs was Crawford and I think its safe to say the team they play for has a lot to do with it

The better question is why would we have an Olympic GM who is dumb enough to let an individual game completely define someones ability to make the team.

Still laughing though. Maybe in 2018.

I could see the third goaltender coming down to either Holtby, Ward, or Reimer. Price and Loungo are the favourites for the top two in my mind though.

I won't argue, but the notion isnt as ridiculous as it seems considering he outplayed every goalie in the country and Canadian goaltending sucks

Should be Lu, Price, Holtby. I think Lu will get the starting spot and Price will play backup, but Holtby's good too.

It's a little early to talk about the Olympics IMO.

Yea I'm going to write off this season for Luongo because it's way on the outside of his average. Luongo is still ahead. Price is ahead. Maybe an argument with Fleury and Ward.

Not sure why everyone is laughing. I am not saying Reimer has a good chance of making the team but who else do we have?

Right now, I send Crawford, Price and Luongo but Reimer is not too far behind.

Nope, still sticking to Price, Luongo, and Ward as the likely three right now.

I'm a Leafs fan and I don't think Reimer had much of a chance before or after that game/playoffs.

I have Luongo and Price as the top 2. Aside from that, there's a bunch of goalies that would be in contention for that #3, including Reimer. So unless Reimer has a phenomenal first half of next season or one of Luongo/Price collapse or get injured, at best Reimer would be the #3.

maybe Im missing something. But why is everyone saying Holtby should automatically be the 2nd or 3rd goalie. Jesus, the kid is young and besides one good playoff series, shown nothing more than Dubnyk or Reimer.

Reimer has a shot yes, the playoffs helped his chances.

It's only a few months away. In terms of 'hockey playing time', it's 4 months away.
