Can't argue with that. NHL should be happy how it all turned out.

In 2012, more than 176 million people tuned into the NCAA Division I men’s basketball championship. The 2013 tournament across TBS, CBS, TNT and truTV was the most-watched in 19 years, averaging 10.7 million total viewers, up 11% from last year’s 9.6 million viewers, according to CBS Sports and Turner.

In 2012, for the first time in March Madness history, companies spent more than $1 billion in advertising, according to marketing and research firm Kantar Media, NY. That not only put the Tournament ahead of the NFL playoffs and Super Bowl XLVI ($975.3 million), but was almost as much as the combined ad money spent during the post-seasons for the NBA ($536.9 million), MLB ($354.1 million) and NHL ($101.1 million), per Kantar. Figures for Super Bowl XLVII ad spend are still being finalized.

The Boston rating is going to be interesting. My guess is a lot of people turned that game off when it was 4-1 and then when they flip through channels every once in a while to see how the game's going or get texts/calls from friends on how the Bruins tied it they get a huge spike in OT.

According to a source, Game 7 drew a 16.4 in Boston. Peaking at a 23.

Steve Lepore‏@stevelepore3m
Shockingly, stupefyingly, both Game 7's drew the same rating nationally.

The NHL's poor TV ratings will hopefully be coming to an end with these series.

It seemed that Bruins leafs game peaked around 850k during 10pm last night. Imagine if they could add Boston's local numbers and if there was another American team?

HNIC sets record for game 7 Toronto-Boston

Quote:
CBC's Hockey Night in Canada set an audience record Monday night after more than 5.1 million viewers tuned in during Game 7 of the Eastern Conference quarter-final between the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Boston Bruins.
...
Sunday's Game 6 record of 4.5 million viewers lasted only one day. Monday's broadcast for Game 7 also shattered the records for an opening-round game on CBC (3.9 million viewers), and a Maple Leafs playoff broadcast on CBC (4.27 million).

The Toronto-Boston matchup became the most-watched first-round series in CBC history, averaging an audience of 3.53 million viewers.

Monday's game reached 40 per cent of the population in Canada, according to ratings data from the Bureau of Broadcast Measurement.

Lady Stanley, your article says it reached 5.1 million Canadians on CBC and 40% of population of Canada. however, there is no mention of RDS.. i am pretty sure RDS got probably 1 million roughly. so are you telling me that this game attracted over 6 million in Canada, or is RDS already included in the rating? If RDS is not incl, then what would be the total viewers of both CBC and RDS.. thanks

Purely CBC. (Didn't see any #s for RDS)

Sports Ratings last night in Nashville: Bulls-Heat (3.7) Thunder-Grizzlies (4.3) NY Rangers-Capitals (0.1).

People on Twitter were complaining that Nashville is not a hockey town.

People watch their own teams. That's hockey for you.

Been over this a thousand times. The NBA has way more 'league fans' like the NFL. Baseball and hockey are more tribal...people just watch their own teams.

With the RSN's now out you will see better numbers on NBCSN

NBC should do well with NYR/BOS & CHI/DET

OTT/PIT will be huge in Pittsburgh but elsewhere?

BTW can we tip our hats to Bristol as ESPN led SportsCenter last night with TOR/BOS

Not only that but that hockey game was terrible and the Grizzlies are in Tennessee so it's obvious why they would have viewers even though Nashville is a few hours away from Memphis.

I can explain.

New York and Washington were blacked out locally, hurting the national rating.
Boston and Toronto were blacked out locally, but Toronto is in Canada so the US lost just one market.

Boston went to OT, New York blew out Washington.
I think the Rangers ratings were good, was that higher than game 7 round one last season?
But I think the blowout actually hurt since the 3rd period it was already decided.

I know for being a Ranger fan, I was watching parts of the Bruins 3rd period and OT.

Qouted for truth.
Actually IU do you have the ratings for all NHL towns comparing comparing their NBA to NHL playoff ratings for teams not involved?

(Ex Nashville for NHL to NBA, Philadelphia NHL v NBA playoffs)?

No word on Ducks-Wings game 7 local?

Seems very time consuming, I'll pass. Sorry.

Det - 12.8, Ducks - 1.8, nat'l - 0.7

Not really. I would consider myself an NFL 'league fan' and I'm far from a casual fan. I just find myself more interested in the entire thing than I do the Bears. Since the NBA has, what, 5 teams that a worth a damn, there's plenty who are into watching those teams that don't care about their own because they are terrible and aren't worth watching.
