SI. Com's Mair: Top 10 Goalies

http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/200...ies/index.html

Interesting list:
Kiprusoff
Lundqvist
Brodeur
Luongo
Miller
Vokoun
Turco
Giguere
Fernandez
Ward

Interesting order. Ward is too low, IMO.

Good list, sounds about right, though I agree with him on Ward, he has to prove he can be better in regular season. Lehtonen can stay healthy he's in the middle of this pack at least.

Great thing about that list is theres only one other goalie on there in the division and 3 total in the conference. And weve been dealing with Broduer for the last dozen years anyway...

Id say that pretty accurate as far as the top 10 go...

Whats funny? None of them have a 15 year contract or even close to one.

So that leads me to think about the TOP 10 dumbest GMs

I actually think Ward is too high.

Yeah, Ward is too high.. he had a really sub-par regular season last year and got hot at the right time to take away the starting job from Gerber... Giguere isn't even the best goalie on his own team let alone in the top 10

Yeah, Ward certainly has the potential to be top-10 but he's gotta show what he can do in the regular season.

I guess for me I'd just love to see what Lundqvist could do with a top defense, maybe in a few years we'll have a chance to see that.

No way Hank should be ranked ahead of Brodeur after one season of hockey. I hate the Devils, but I give Brodeur his due respect because.....well he is the best goalie ever. No doubt in my mind he should be #1 on that list.

While I disagree with Brodeur being the BEST EVER, he definitly is up there, you have no choice but to respect that guy. But it is nice to see Lundqvist above him lol

I'd put Henke below Luongo and Brodeur.

One poor, injury filled season and Khabibulin drops off the map? It's more likely that the writer forgot about him.

What about Martin Gerber? He cracks the top 10.

Nabokov, while inconsistent is better than Fernandez, and with the season Cujo had last year I certainly think he's higher than Giggy. Turco drops off the list; I love his style and his handling ability, but he is not a clutch goaltender.

Last but not least, what about Dominik Hasek? Forget the injuries, if we're just assessing goaltenders Dom has to be in the top 5.

Kipprusoff
Luongo
Brodeur
Lundqvist
Hasek
Vokoun
Miller
Khabibulin
Gerber
Joseph

Brodeur should be ahead of Lundqvist, and Vokoun is better than Miller.

Hasek is still at least top 3 just as Forsberg is at least a top 3 center.

Top 10 goalies in the game today, for this season; (If I today had to pick a goalie for any team for just this NHL season I would take them in this order.)

1. Lundqvist
2. Lethonen
3. Brodeur
4. Miller
5. Luongo
6. Kipper
7. Hasek
8. DiPietro
9. Turco
10. Giguere

Why Kipper so low?

And for most lists in general, I think even though Hasek is old, he should be top 3-4 after last season, he was very good until he went down.

Kipper probably have the best head of any goalie in the league, his concentration ability is second to none, he will safe every shot thats possible for him to save when he is in the zone. I just don't think his skill level is up there with the best. He don't have the best lateral movement. He isn't all that good at recovering.

I think Kipper is great when he plays for a team thats better then the opponent, he is great when he is playing for a team that is worse then the opponent, like his team plays well but the other team ís just better, but he isn't great when he plays for a team that don't play well so to speak.

Still he is a great goalie. Its pretty much a toss up between him, Luongo and Miller IMO.

On Hasek, I don't know. I got the feeling last season, that he kind of wore down on tough nights. Or the night after a tough night. I think he might have gotten into trouble in a PO anyway if he where healty.

I believe you're missing Tomas Vokoun on your list and I think he should be in the top 4-5 ahead of Miller, Lethonen, Lundqvist for sure. With Dipietro, Turco and Giguere on your list, you've lost a tad bit of credibility I believe.

Hasek is far, far, far better than Brodeur. HE is the best ever. Brodeur might be in the top 10 but I probably wouldn't put him there because he had the luxury of playing with extremely gifted and defensive oriented teams almost his entire career.

Its possible I am wrong on Turco, Giguere and Voukoun, I can't watch many games from the West C.

The broadcasting company's here in Sweden prefers eastern conference games over the WC because of the timediffrence, WC games often starts 4 am here.

On Dipietro, the Islanders situation last season wheren't good. With the team they had, they needed to come thogether from the get go and overperform to get into the PO's, they didn't, and the sense in that lockerroom where that they where non play-off team. I think not beeing in a competetive position really hurt Dipietro last season. He is a huge talent. If he where in Voukouns position in Nashville, I think he would have been on many peoples top 10 list.

BTW I am not that sold on Voukon. Top 10, might be, thought don't think he is a lock, and I would never take him over Lundqvist, not a chance.
