Not really a concern when we are losing games with Groulx and Baines in the lineup. And last night we lost on the road in Ottawa...MANY teams do that.
Agreed, Ottawa is a good team that we can't expect to beat every single time we play them. We lost to them last night, and will lose to them at least once or twice (if not more) in the regular season as well.
But the good news is, we outshot them last night, and played with them throughout the game. Unfortunately, they got the bounces, and we didn't get the goaltending.

Preseason means nothing. Bring on the real deal!
Exactly. I thought the team played fine last night but Ottawa capitalized on their chances while we did not. Plus Gerber was MUCH better than Aebischer.

The concern is apart from Koivu and Ryder...our vets really haven't looked ready for the season at all, could be just vets doing their preseason thing, but I hope they can turn it on for the first game
That being said, it's always nice to start a season firing on all cylinders, gives you a cushion at the end of the year and sometimes teams have momentum from the pre-season so it helps with that. But gotta keep in mind that guys like Samsonov and Kovalev weren't trying all that hard so..
Pretty excited about the new season, been reading the boards more lately. Have a good season everyone !

True that Kovalev, Samsonov, Ribeiro, Markov and Rivet haven't looked great but I'll give them the benefit of the doubt. I'm hoping the energy that the young Lats brings to the team will help.
"Only a little"... but not necessarily surprised by that concern. I would have liked to see a few veterans work a bit harder, but I didn't expect it. I would have liked to see the goalies really play better, but it's not all that meaningful. I would have liked to see better discipline early, more energy later, but I don't think that such things are likely to carry over to the regular season. Slightly more lows than highs, as a 2-5 record would lead one to expect, but hey, maybe it just means we've got the losing streak out of the way early this time...?
I've answered yes, but in reality we have a so-so team that will be fighting for the 8th spot again this year. I predict that Huet/Aebisher, Kovalev and Markov won't have a good season (not as good as last year at least), so some players will have to elevate their game...
Im not concerned at all. Preseason is all about individual performances, whatever the team does is meaningless if you ask me? Do you really think Chicago is going to win the cup because they are undefeated in preseason? I think not .. Look at it that way.
I am only really concerned about Cristobal Huet. From what I have seen, he hasn't looked that great (I missed some of the games last week, since i was out of town). Perhaps it takes a couple of games for goalies to start feeling like themselves, but since we signed him in the offseason, I've been somewhat leary.
I suppose the good news is that Jose Theodore is playing terrible for the Avalanche (given his contract amount). The other night, he let in 3 goals on 6 shots, so I am definitely happy to have cleared that albatross off our books.

Guess I'm overcritical but a player who doesn't play to win even in pre-season makes me nervous and is it fair for those who are fighting for a spot on the roster? Team still has problems scoring and GA are worse.
