Should Chris Kelly get suspended for his elbow to JVR?

I have not heard a single mention of a possible suspension to Kelly for the obvious target of the head with his elbow that busted up JVR 's nose while the 2 jostled on the ice.
It was not a hockey play and it was an attempt to injure targeting the head.
Bad enough that the refs missed it, Shanny should be reviewing it.
Anyone hear anything along those lines.
It sure PISS$d me off when I saw it.

Bourque didn't get suspended so I don't see him getting suspended even though both likely deserve some time off

Not that I disagree that this kind of stuff happens in the playoffs and is part of the "war" to get further, but what exactly does it being the Bruins and/or it being in Boston have to do with anything? lol

Because people still have this perception that Greg's dad runs thing behind the scene's and that Boston gets 'preerential' treatment. I don't think there will be a suspesnsion...I would have rather it been a penatly though.

Not sure how this matters much to anything other than if your cheering against the Bruins.

Campbell connection with NHL???

Jeremy M. Jacobs, Owner & Governor, Chairman, NHL Board of Governors

Importance of American team to American TV networks.

Come on, it's common sense IMHO.

The league sucks at consistency in discipline, but come on man, take off the foil hat

It should have been a penalty, no suspension.

I believe it should have been a double minor 4 minute elbowing penalty that caused injury/blood.

I think 15 out of 10 times it's a penalty in the regular season and...I suppose I can see why they let it go in a Game 7 since they let pretty much everything go (whether that's right or wrong is another debate).

It's a penalty but not suspension worthy, imo....especially if Bourque's isn't (though it should clearly have been).

You take off the blinders you're obviously wearing. Jacobs IS a POWERFUL man within the NHL owner's circle.

If the NHL could become as popular in the U.S.A. as baseball, basketball, football (NCAA, and NFL), and NASCAR, how many Canadian teams do you think would remain in the NHL?

2 for sure, yes, count 'em 2, Montreal and Toronto! With an outside chance of Vancouver. Why is that it takes very little for the NHL to move a Canadian team south, but, it's a bloody difficult process to have a team move north to Canada. The Phoenix Coyotes should have been back in Canada over 5 years ago already. Why???

Come on, get a clue!

Should have been a penalty, should be a one game suspension. Blatant elbow to the face, JVR was asking for it though, JVR became one of my favorite players after that.

No, it should have been 5 and a game for intent to injure. It's not like Kelly was reacting to an oncoming body check and got his elbo up a little. He blatantly struck JVR forcefully with his elbo.

Supplementary discipline was also warranted IMHO.

In the real world, that would be assault causing injury!

i dont see that as a suspendible offence, however, it was a blatant penalty, and shouldve been called as a penalty.

Oddly enough of the 3 debated elbows in the first round (Ferrence on Grabo, Kelly on JVR and Bourque on Conacher) the one that is most excusable, most in the flow of the play, and least blatant is the only one that will be punished.

All contact with the head, no matter how, is suppose to be a suspendible offense in the NHL these days.

However, I guess it's only enforced in the regular season!

what I saw...

JVR should have got 2 minutes for interference

Kelly should have got 4 minutes for elbowing

Just a minor. Unless we're going to start suspending people for punches too. Which would be ridiculous.

Regarding a 4 minute penalty:

There is no double minor for elbowing.

Elbowing is either a 2 minute minor, a 5 minute major or a match penalty.

If the referee calls an elbowing penalty and an injury to the face or head occurs the call must be a 5 minute major and a game misconduct.

Simply put, if the referee called an elbowing penalty on Kelly, he would have been forced to make it a 5 minute major and game misconduct.

Should have been 5 and a game. Hard to say if Boston really gets preferential treatment, but if you look at the evidence, there's at least an argument to be made.

On a different topic, am I the only one that thinks Ovie should have gotten a 5 minute charging penalty for his his on McDonnaugh?

The refs decided that series. Chara was throwing people to the ice, elbows, Rask punching Lupul. And so on...
I believe the refs are told to let things go to keep American teams in the playoffs.
We should have been able to hold the lead but the series would have been easier to win if the proper calls were made.
