How much do you have Clarkson signing for?

If he can be retained at a reasonable price (IMO, around $4.25M), then we'll just keep him.

I wouldn't take him on the Leafs if the rumoured 5M+ he wants is true.

It's not that i don't like the deal, but why not just sign Clarkson as a free agent and deal Mac (if we need to) for another piece?

Ya....forgot Mac was UFA. Still, if Clarkson is a target, just sign him ourselves.

I had the same thought. Just cut out the middleman. Much better asset management.

You guys can sign Clarke MacArthur when he hits UFA status on July 5th.

Clarkson to Toronto is very likely.

We'll also keep our 3rd rounder.

If we can sign Clarkson to a reasonable cap hit he'll be back, no questions asked. Him and Lou are BFF's.

The only way he doesn't re-sign is if he has outrageous contract demands - in which case, you guys are free to sign him on your own accord.

Clarkson picks Toronto over New Jersey if all things ($) are equal.

Watch.

Devil fans' opinions of clarkson are this

for the most part, they do want him back but ONLY if he comes at a reasonable price and ONLY IF he is going to play mostly on the 3rd line.

if neither of those things are going to happen, I (and most Devils fans) want him to walk because it will not be worth it.

Agreed. If he plays top 6 or gets more then 4-4.5 then he can leave

I feel like he can play top 6 on the leafs. He just needs talent around him, he's not the type of talent to "make" a line, the way, say Kessel can.

If Leafs can get him for 4.5, I think that's about fair. Realistically, I'm hoping for less. We'll see if he gives the hometown discount, but I hear that he's intensely loyal to Devils management.

David Clarkson is David Clarkson. He's one of those players who it doesn't really matter who you play him with, he's always going to be basically the same player.

He's not top-six material. He's not good enough at using his linemates.

he played with talented players this year. he played with Henrique, Elias, Zajac, etc at various points throughout the year. he is the same player wherever you play him becuase he does not use his linemates well at all.

edit- seems like CD beat me to it.

Clarkson at 4.5M wouldn't be a bargain, but if I were a betting man, I would think he'd get at least 5 on the open market.

If we can get him for 4M at a reasonable length, we'd have to take that. Even if he's not used as a top 6.

Swap early negotiating rights and Toronto sends a 3rd rounder. Done.

No its not very likely. That is kind of an arrogant statement.

Yes it is possible and if he hits free agency we will probably be one of the teams after him but that statement was just wrong on several different levels.

some Leafs fans seem so utterly convinced that Clarky is counting the hours till he returns to Toronto. dont forget that without Pete, Clarky might not even be an NHL player right now. that could inspire alot of loyalty
