If Teddy is played with skill players and Deboer doesn't bench him for a simple mistake that most of our players make night in and night out he'll be fine. Im growing tired of Deboer benching Larsson, JJ, and Teddy because they're young and make mistakes but old man Salvador, Zid, Volch, Kovy, etc can all make bone headed plays but its fine because theyre vets. Teddy put with skilled guys like Henrique, Elias, Zajac, etc can succeed if given time and the confidence he deserves.

If he'd improve his strength he'd be fine IMO. He's too weak.

Yeah, his leg strength, but also, his hockey "smarts/sense" is not where it needs to be yet. But, is that because a lack of playing time?

There are guys in the league as small and not physical (Zuccerello) that are having success.

I hope Lou does not give up on Teds and that DeBoer gives him a real chance to stick here.

Yeah that's the problem, hockey sense and smarts (hockey iq) can't really be taught. I think he has the tools to play in the nhl, but he's too raw in areas that you have to be stronger in.

I think people overplay Ted's lack of hockey sense.

Might be more accurate to say his defensive awareness needs improvement.

And we know guys can improve in that area.

again, when he was given consistent time with guys who can actually produce offense, he didn't do too badly. under Jacques Lemaire no less, one of the more defensive minded coaches of all time.

try him for a handful of games with skilled players and see what happens.

I am not saying he should be handed 1st line wing minutes, but you can give him shifts throughout the game with good players and see what happens.

he can't think that if he makes one little mistake hes sitting for a month. thats not how you develop young players.

I can't believe how down everyone is on the guy.

In his draft class about half of the first rounders only blossomed this year, or haven't blossomed yet:
Beach
Teubert
Colborne
Gardiner
Pickard
Sbisa
Gustaffson
Cuma
Nemisz
Tikhonov
Leveille
McCollum

The year before him is even worse - but alot of guys are making the leap now.

It's still early to make any call on 'bust'.

Sign him for 2 years on a 2-way and see what happens.

that line was pretty effective at the end of 2011 IIRC

2 guys who get a lot of heat for lack of hockey IQ/poor D. Balanced by JJ?

Then maybe throw ted's some PP time? Butler and Bernier got some, doesn't crazy to give Ted's some pp love.

and Josefson does have hockey IQ. he just can't score.

JJ also suffered from playing with other offensively challenged guys. but yes he does seem to lack a scoring touch/mentality.

Honestly, with both Tedi and JJ - they just look like they don't have confidence in playing the NHL game yet. JJ got his act together in spurts, but they are still just thinking instead of playing.

When JJ played in his first couple of games he displayed a nifty backhand and a decent shot - we haven't seen either since.

Rushing a shot, passing when they should shoot, etc... all of that stuff should go away if they are sure of their game.

Heck, Zajac looked like a rookie for most of the year because his confidence was shot.

That line did have a very productive stretch, and I've long wondered why it never got re-assembled.

A lot of the players on that list have been written off by their drafting teams.

Clarkson started playing out of his mind, and JJ/Tedenby haven't really been healthy and in NJ at the same time...

I'd like to see us bring in Tikhonov. Give him a shot like we gave Loktionov a shot.

I thought this season JJ looked like a guy with a severe lack of confidence. Totally out of sorts on O, and even his forecheck looked much less effective.

Honestly, Tedenby is a player who has never really been able to put it all together anywhere.

Josefson is a guy that is just never going to produce a big amount of points at the NHL level. but I still think he can be a solid 3rd liner. he is already pretty good defensively and his hockey IQ is not lacking.

I think Josefson has it in him to be a solid 40 point player, but he needs to stop getting injured. His injury history has crippled his development and his confidence.

I've brought it up too, but then I realized Tikhonov is a righty, and so is Kovy. The coach won't play them together because he makes lines exclusive where Righties are on right, and lefties are on left which I do not agree with at all because it handcuffs things. And neither of them play center either.

We'll never be able to play him with Kovy unless they put him back on LW.
