and the PP overall wasn't terrible last year, soo...

it could be better, but it's not like they never ever scored at all on the PP

I read on the islander board that it was a dump in that took a weird bounce and dubinsky chipped it in.

something tells me that Dipietro was out of position, trying to play the puck

The irony is I was just preparing to write how Brandon Dubinsky has been invisible on the fourth line, when what happens? Dubinsky scores, sending a shot caroming off an Islander skate and past DiPietro to tie the score. The same concerns apply—that if you put a kid like that on the fourth line, he’s going to be obscured. But if he can still provide the occasional spark as he did just now, maybe you can’t complain.

Sounds like Valiquette had a pretty good game too with some big saves.

And of course, Yashin scored when it matters most. (September).

As a fan, my only concern each pre-season is that the players avoid injuries. Nothing else matters much, really, though I know some fans choose to place weight on scores, records and the like. (The Hawks are undefeated; all one needs to know.) To my mind, a vet like Jagr not playing the bulk of these games is actually a plus for NYR. Less wear and tear on his body heading into the very long six+ months ahead.

As you say, wake me up next week...heck, wake me up at Christmas time, once we have a good read on teams.

As for Dipietro: extremely talented goalie. But, to date, more shine than substance. And his style drives me nuts. I like guys who play more "quiet" games in net (e.g., Lundqvist), those who make it look easy, as opposed to making the routine look spec-tac-u-lar!.

What strikes me is, Jagr was held shotless, yet he had more than 20 minutes of play.

It was his first game back so I won't think to much of it, but does anyone think his shoulder may not be 100% yet.

well i find it hard to believe that any vets on any team are really playing their best games right now

there's no point for them to truly bust their ***** and push to win these games. they can go hard for some of the shifts, but it's preseason...no reason to hurt yourself

it's just hardly a reliable indicator of regular season play

as for dipietro...yeah, he'd probably do best to calm his style down some. it's great to be able to make that big save when it's needed, but good goalies know how to make it so they don't have to make those big saves as often

In a 2-1 loss, you would think that NY would have been able to tie it with a pp goal, but that part of their game has been aneimic all pre season. At least Dubinsky scored, with an assist by Lessard

I think him being shotless has a lot more to do with him not playing any kind of actual competative hockey (games, scrimmages, or practices) in months, rather than his shoulder not being healthy.

it may not be 100% as good as it's ever been, but it's certainly good enough for him to shoot and score. something he's been doing in practice for weeks now

Well thats good to hear.

Like I said, I'm just looking to much into his first preseason game.

Heres hoping that Jagr dominates this year like he did last year.

to be completely honest with you i can tell you his shoulder is not 100% bc i had the same exact surgery he had with the same complications on may 22. was suppose to go in just to have the a/c joint repaired during a hour long surgery and was told i would be all good in 6 weeks. they knocked me out and opened it and found alot more damage and i was operated on for 2.5-3 hours. after the surgery they explained the damage and said it would take a solid 4-6 months till it was anywhere near 100%. long story short is dont get too concerned with jagr right now, bc honestly you probably wont see the really JJ till nov or dec. i know i just started playing again within the past month but my shoulder is not where it should be. not so much pain or range of motion, but the strength and control just takes soo long to come back like it use to be.

Yes, but the difference between you and Jagr is the fact that you are a normal person and he is a finely tuned professional athlete.

Staal is headed back to Sudbury. It would be better if he could go to the AHL, but the rules won't allow it. Oh well, he's got a long future ahead of him. Plenty of time to get his game together.
