As for the bolded, if the guy was burnt out then how would he be able to keep playing after the NHL season?

Just to clarify, I'm not dissappointed with the kid it's what I expected. But it's something we have to take with us going forward.
He was pinching but not nearly as much as he did in the AHL. He was actually pretty conservative earlier in the season and was very solid defensively.
He started to fall into bad habits during that long road trip and look flat out exhausted in the last 10 games or so.

Just because he's burnt out, doesn't mean that he can't play. Plus getting an invite to Team Canada is a great honor so i'm sure he had no problem mustering up the energy to play in this tournament.

This. His play without the puck was still deficient from the first game onwards.

If anything, his puck-handling ability
Is what took a hit as he "burnt out" - the defensive zone assertiveness and awareness was always a liability.

Any chance at Fedun cracking the roster next year out of camp?

Pretty remarkable year for that guy

It is so hard to say, Brodin came in this year and played very well. Of course we are all hoping that he succeeds but look at high Rundbland was and he is still not in the NHL.

I see it like this: He could be a solution for our D if he is ready, or we can still wait and get an immediate fix. That simple

At this point in their respective careers, a veteren Ryan Whitney will play a similar role and have similar impact as rookie Klefbom (for one year only). Why not sign Whitney for one year for bottom pairing and let Klefbom develop in AHL.

No harm to NHL club or to the prospect.

Deal Whitney at TDL for a 5th if Klefa is doing well in the AHL. Free 5th round pick if so

I think there's a chance, albeit not a great chance.

Right now, you have to think that both Marincin and Klefbom are ahead of him.

It depends what happens in training camp.

Great basic idea but Whitney is not coming back. I think klefbom might even be able to be a 2nd pair with Petry and Shultz with Smid 1st pair. Really unlikely but we can dream

Money talks, we got no cap problems next season, give him a little extra.. If not whitney, a similar UFA, perhaps Streit (for 2 years, but a little more $)

Or bring up Fedun for bottom pairing. Hell offer similar things Klefbom does, good first pass, good in own zone. Just doesnt have the physicality.

Fedun is a great fix. He has probaly hit his peak as a prospect in the AHL, and his upside is a 5-6 guy. Let Marincin and Klefa (who have higher upsides) develop together

All Im saying is defenseman take time.

Rundblad has always been weak defensively though - that's remnant from his draft year. I remember watching the WJHC in 2009 when everyone was talking about Victor Hedman being the next big thing and coming away amazed at how well he moved the puck. But he was terrible in his own zone, and it's continued today as well.

It's not even a size thing - Rundblad's in-zone hockey sense is just terribly poor.

Whitney isn't coming back, he had a negative attitude in the dressing room and with the media. The team simply won't offer him a deal.

What we do is go out and get someone so that if Fedun/Klefbom/Marincin are farther away then we think we don't have to worry. Fedun is not a great fix. A great fix is a guy who has proven he can play in a NHL lineup. Given our defensive issues this year one would think that if Fedun was this close he would've been given a few games as a look and see.

What we need to do is go out and get someone so that if Fedun/Klefbom/Marincin are farther away then we think we don't have to worry. Not like this year where we figured we can rely on Schultz and Whitney. Two guys that were big question marks before the season started.

I have a feeling Whitney wouldn't take an Oilers offer even if it was the biggest and longest term one he received. That said, the Oilers won't be offering him squat, so I don't even know why anyone's talking about him anymore.

Let's not get ahead of ourselves. Klefbom is a fine player, but he's missed a year of development, and is coming from the SEL. It's a big leap to the NHL.

My hope is that MacT will shore up the D with current NHLers over the summer and that will allow Klefbom to get 10-20 AHL games in before he starts to get used as in injury call up. I'd like him to have around a 50/50 split between the NHL/AHL next season. Assuming that he looks NHL ready of course.

Let's not forget how bad he was on the ice. Hopefully the Oilers sign 2-3 capable vets and let the top prospects fill in when injuries occur.

its also difficult to compare him to how Brodin jumped to NA, Brodin was already considered a better prospect in 2012, also he is a defensive defenseman with high hockey iq.

Klefbom was/is still getting defensive zone coverage down, as well as rounding out his offensive game(which is his calling card)

Brodin was already playing NA style in SEL and jump was as drastic
