What is with these overpaid NHL'ers being taken to the brink by frickin Slovenia, for those geographically challenged Slovenia is not to be confused with Slovakia where they do play hockey and make crappy pucks. DO they even have 1000 people playing hockey in tiny Slovenia, was there even an AHL player on that team, unfrickin believable, Canada better hope that Luxembourg and Liechtenstein don't embrace the sport!

PS There was a time that NHL players were so far superior to anyone else they would wax teams 12-0, 20-2 etc., unfortunately NHL players are now only superior in salary.

Apparently Slovenia only have 8 hockey rinks in total. Quite a shock. Ladd held his own well.

Yes my alleged error count domestically is a tad on the high side.....the only thing that explains it is I am about 85% D zone stars.

Watching the US- Russia game right now. Trouba with a goal and an assist. This kid will never see the Rock!

Crap, I completely forgot about the US game today. Good to see that Trouba finally returned from injury... and with a vengeance!

Edit: Wow, 8-3 for the US against Russia. Don't see an assist for Trouba on TSN, but TSN is hardly reliable when it comes to the WHC.

Oh this Trouba kid will be a good one Unfortunately, I couldn't watch the game due to my thesis. But I will try to watch most of the Switzerland - Czech Rep. game to observe Pavs.

Awesome that he:

Got back into a game after injury.
Got better ice time against one of the stronger opponents.
Scored a powerplay goal.

Man just thinking about how bad our powerplay has been this past season, and then having the potential of having both Schiefele and Trouba, who's bread and butter will likely be the powerplay, joining the team next season.

Obviously not for sure that both will be here, and maybe not even likely, but still a nice thought.

Nice thing about Trouba's goal, was that it was a nice heads up, low snap shot, and not just a blast from the point.

Pavs was solid in the quarter final loss against Switzerland. He gave up 2 goals on 32 shots (had no chance on the second one) and was voted one of three Czech MVPs in tournament... but I don't think you can give much on that fact.

The offense was beyond **** the first 2 periods, not his fault.
The first one was kicked in by Zidlicky, no chance on the second one.

Trouba is getting allot of love on the GDT. Did you watch the game Huff and Rheged?

Makes me happy that the coaching staff trusted him enough to give him time on the powerplay!

I don't see Trouba helping out our PP too much as the point *cough* except Jokinen *cough* isn't really much of a problem as all of Byfuglien, Enstrom, Bogosian, Clitsome and Postma have all been really successful PP point men relative to their NHL peers.
Our big problem is down low, we hardly ever have guys in the right position for rebounds or infront of the net (Ladd and Antropov were pretty good although). Scheifeele seems to do pretty good here so hopefully he can bring a huge improvement and take Wellwood's spot on PP2.
However, it should be noted that Jets improved under Perry Pearn here as the Jets were actually in the top 10 in the NHL for power play scoring chances per minute in the second half of the season, after being in the bottom 5 last season and the first half of this season.

He has been used as a PP specialist for much of the tourney. Pretty much right from the start of game one. His cannon is impressive.

Aside:

I want to see another Winnipeg Jets Skills Competition.

Buff, Bogo, Postma and Trouba all have hammers. I wanna see where they rank.

That would be interesting. My bet would Buff, Trouba, Bogo, Postma.

Yeah, Trouba has a killer slapshot. If he doesn't score, a lot of the time the goalies (from what I saw in his NCAA games) couldn't handle the rebound and there were a lot of rebound goals off his shot.

Buff clocked in a 104 last time.

I think Postma clocked in at 97 as an AHL All Start two years back.

It isn't a wide gap regardless.

We could rotate five RD's with howitzers and let Enstrom play the whole game at LD.

Overall the Czech team out shot the Swiss, Gerber was the difference and the better of the two goal-tenders.
