And here we go, Josi and his teammates finish the first round 7-0 at first place. They'll face the Czech Republic on thursday for the quarter finals. Josi tallied 7 points (2G 5A) in 7 games leading the team with future Geneva forward, Denis Hollenstein.

Smith got 0+5 against Russia in quaterfinals, all of em being primary assists. Hes playing really well with Stastny, maybe we see some offseason action with Colorado?

Interesting how well Smith is doing when he is not playing on a low line with the Preds coaching system.

What a game for Craig Smith with 5 assists. Great tournament for him so far. Looks like he is back to the form from last season

What a load of garbage. If Smith has talent that is good enough to play well against NHL competiton then neither the line he is on nor the coaching system should prevent that talent from showing through. FFS Vern freaking Fiddler managed to prove himself to be an NHL caliber player despite playing on a low line and in Trotz's system. The fact is right now Smith is a classic tweener. He can dominate against AHL level players but cant quite hang with top line players in the NHL. It not like this is a unique situation. Geoffrion was looking like he was going to be just the same, and that didnt change when he went to Montreal.

Josi is looking STRONG against the Czechs.
We've got another soon-to-be world class d-man in our unit.

Oh here we go with all the negativity about Smith the kid could go to the moon and back and people PREDS fans will sit on here and bash him about something.
12 points in tourny play so far. Make all the snide comments you want. It's clear Smith has talent and it is also clear that he would do a lot better with players with a tad of offensive talent. Name one NHL player who is Smiths type 2nd year in the league who would be successful playing on the 4th line with Clune and Yip.

Smith is not all at fault for this past season. Hopefully this showing will give the kid some confidence ans Trotz something to think about.

What's garbage is your judgment on a kid who is in his 2nd year and is forced to play with a bunch of waiver pick up grinders. The kid has the goods and needs confidence and linemates who he can build chemistry and have success. Stop the trash until the kid is given a legit chance to thrive.

Can't laud Josi's play then wave off Smith's by mentioning it's against non-NHL level competition. They're both playing well; I haven't given up on Smith.

I am not saying Smith is not playing well. But his stats are inflated due to the quality of players and the larger ice surface. I don't know Josi's stats, but seeming he is piling up points, the same holds true for him.

I agree. I haven't given up on him and I think he has the ability to put it all together and be good. Having said that, I don't see how you blame his coach and line mates for his season. He played poorly. He made a VERY poor decision to not go play with the Ads during the lockout. He wasn't ready to go when the season started and it snowballed. He needs to build on this tourney in the offseason and come in stronger, faster and hungrier to play a small ice game.

Agreed.

You can see he has the creativity to do some stuff and if the game slows down a bit for him, he'll be incredible.

Smith had five assists, including four primary helpers, in an 8-3 romp over Russia today. He now leads the tournament with 9 helpers and is the USA's number two scorer (one point off Stastny). This team really has found its stride and exceeded what they looked to be capable of on paper. They play Switzerland on Saturday.

Speaking of which, Josi scored the game-winning goal for the Swiss over the Czechs this morning. With Medvedev being held pointless by the US, Josi is now the outright top scoring defenseman in the tournament.

So if Smith is shotty netting 5 assists against a Russian team with NHL level offensive talent, what does that say about them(Ovi, Rads, Kovy)? If these guys are playing against lesser talent shouldn't they be lighting it up since they Ovi and Kovy are two of the best in the NHL?

Give Smith credit for having a good tourney so far. Maybe it gets him back on track. Instead of bashing his success, support the kid and what he's done. I hope it gets him on track for us as I felt he need a boost in his confidence. He just may be getting that. Hockey and any sport for that matter derive success from confidence and if he has a good tourney and regains his confidence, that's all we can ask for.
