5th in points, 8 penalty minutes all year. That's what the award is about.
So you take one word out of that sentence and go completely into left field as to the meaning. Gentlemanly play is not offense it is how you treat and respect your fellow player.

How Eriksson has not won this award yet is absolutely crazy!

I just can't see Kane winning this regardless of statistics due to the optics of it. Yes, people change, but he's still a cocky kid with a controversial history going up against a multi-time Lady Byng winner and a multi-time Lady Byng finalist who both come across as humanitarians.

I think Moulson finally gets recognized. I know it's just about this year but he has 10 PIM in the last 2 seasons.

I have to admit, I scoffed at seeing Patrick Kane as a finalist for this award. I'm not saying that he's permanently on the un-gentlemanly list, but it takes more than one season of avoiding penalties to wash out punching cabbies and getting blitzed while flipping birdies like a boss.

That's my reaction as well. Granted, Kane's issues have all involved off-ice life decisions. But still... what's the point of this award if a guy who's known as a loose cannon wins it?

Don't play dumb.

1. You came into threads bashing Parise and his playoff performance.
2. Wild fans responded by saying you're ******** and to get out.
3. Now you're mentioning Brodin in nearly every thread about an award or specific person as a way of saying we over-hype him and because you're still clinging on to the way we treated you in the threads about Parise.

What word did I take out?

He said: The award is for sportsmanship

Then I said, The award is for sportsmanship AND gentlemanly play AND for excellence at the game.

I never said gentlemanly play was offense. EXCELLENCE AT THE GAME is.

Kane has shown tremendous maturity on and off ice this season

He deserves the nomination and hopefully he wins

Kane beat a cab driver over spare change, he shouldn't win this.

Patrick Kane deserves the Lady Byng. He exemplified what the trophy means this season. 5th in points, 8 PIMs. Gentlemanly conduct and excellence at the game.

I wish I could say inb4 Kane's cab driver incident, but sadly, people refuse to let things go.

It should not matter what he did one night 4 years ago but ultimately it will because that will be in the minds of alot of voters, my guess is he's a long shot.

Yes Kane is quite the idiot. Beating up a cab driver over a dollar fifty.

Kane winning this award would be like No Heart winning best care bear.

A drunken night over 4 years ago that has nothing to do with literally anything.

The cab driver incident is certainly not the only transgression he's been guilty of. Maybe they nominated him for this because he apologized for his embarrassing behavior last summer.

Pretty sure it's been less than a year since the Blackhawks were recommending Kane for counseling associated with his alcoholism. Let's not act like his behavior is isolated to a single instance of tomfoolery while drunk. There a ton of stuff out there as recently as April regarding off the ice indiscretions.

I generally don't think that Kane should be precluded from the award for eternity, but in justifying that he's a better sportsman than Martin St. Louis... Led the league in scoring. 14 total penalty minutes (while playing 113 more minutes than Kane)..... it should be a factor.

That was all media sensationalism. But it doesn't matter, you're right, he partied in the off-season, lock him up, send him away, he's done here. DONE.

There are dozens of people who use the Brodin joke. Relax and quit getting so defensive. It's the Internet, you probably shouldn't let it bother you too much

If only Kane could be like St. Louis and just sit on his porch, drinking iced tea or whatever he does. I didn't know enjoying life and drinking means you're a bad sportsman in hockey.

St. Louis walks away with this.

That man is an exemplary model of an NHLer. He's older and small, yet he just won the Art Ross and didn't need to be a chippy jerkbag to do it.
