Couturier is doing a man's job defensively so far in his NHL career. Not sure you can say the same for Hamilton or Larsson, who've both gotten sheltered minutes instead.

I think this puts Couturier in a more appreciable context. Because the Flyers are loaded at Center, Couturier is depended on primarily as the team's shutdown center getting the toughest minutes on the team and some of the toughest in the league.

Stats do not tell the whole story. Understanding the context of those stats will paint a more complete picture.

Zibanejad has the 4th highest ozone start in the league. Couturier has the 12th lowest ozone start in the league.
Fair enough. But you may wonder why the Flyers would give him these minutes while hampering his ability to develop offensively. Perhaps they don't believe he's got the upside?

In terms of Dmen from the draft, Brodin, Larsson, Hamilton, Oleksiak and Klefbom are all better yes.

Brodin, Larsson and Hamilton no doubt.

Oleksiak I'll give, but not Klefbom. Will he be better further down the road ? Quite possibly. Is he better now ? No.

Laviolette did not care about developing Couturier this year. I don't know if Couturier has the 60-point potential you need to win a Selke, but he deserves a chance to play with quality wingers in 13-14.

The flyers are in win now mode. They don't have time to shelter other for teh benefit of development, or to spoonfed soft minutes and ice for development. Coots starts on the dend because he is our best and one of the best defensive centerman in the game at a young age.

Whos minutes do you suggest he gets? Should he get giroux's? Schenns? The flyers are loaded down the middle and if this were a team like the Islanders Im sure he would be getting 2nd line center minutes and ice position. But not on this flyers team.

I think he should get Schenn's minutes next year, and Brayden should be moved to the wing.

How much have you seen of Klefbom? You seem awfully certain, so I expect all of his games this season.

That may happen. But I think Brayden is quite capable of being a good centerman in this league, and between all 3 giroux included, there is a lot of looks you can through on the ice together.

Or perhaps he's already their best defensive forward, at the tender age of 20. He's still got plenty of time to develop offensively, by the way...

It's a little comical to see people use his success on one side of the puck as rationale that he isn't developing, when some guys listed haven't found any NHL success yet.

To each his own, I guess...

It's good that you understand that Klefbom may end up being better. Now understand this is a re-draft, and not a ranking of how good the players are now.

Sens fans are excited about Pageau. Most recognize he isn't close to the top of the draft. However he could end up being the steal of the draft. Right now I would say he is late 1st or early second but he could end up being higher. Lots of players are still in juniors or in the playing in Europe.

Baertschi not getting enough love here. I guess people have short memory spans but I don't see how Strome or Schiefele can be ranked higher. Sven put up 2ppg(!!) in his final WHL season, just under a ppg in the AHL and has 13 points in 25 NHL games. Dude is all but guaranteed a spot as one of our top guns next year.

Couturier isn't getting enough love in my opinion. He's one of those guys who shine come playoff time. He was tasked with shutting down Malkin as a rookie and did. And he also chipped in with offense while doing it. I loved this kid at the draft and still do. I'd take him top 5, would consider top 3. The islanders should have snagged him in my opinion. Would be a Jordan Staal-lite to their Crosby-lite.

Schiefele gets so much love just because he is the jets 1st pick, don't get me wrong, I think he will be a solid player but I just don't thing anything too spectacular in him. Strome was a top 5 pick, and hasn't really done anything to drop (or rise for that matter) from that spot. And most people don't follow the flames and baertschi... Which is sad but that can you do.... I would definitely rank baertschi ahead of schiefele and couts(not sold on his potential)

Couturier is not getting offensive development sheltering, but I believe he'll develop a strong offensive game despite his defensive responsibilities. He's a very strong player who is only getting stronger. His board work is phenomenal, he has soft hands, and he has shown flashes of an accurate sniping ability (with Junior numbers and pedigree to support his offensive potential). His defensive game is intuitive and natural and he'll continue to improve in that regard. He'll be the Flyers #2 Center soon enough, playing 1C PK, 2C PP. I think Jagr's comparisons to Ron Francis aren't too far off...

Looks like a good draft so far.
I'm a huge Rattie fan, but I still don't think he would crack the top 15 at this point

I would've agreed with you 2 weeks ago, but then I saw Rattie single handed destroy the Oil Kings. The guy is fast, ******** fast, and has a great shot. He does well on the PP and PK. The guy has an extreme amount of talent

No love for Armia? Best shot out of the draft imo. consistency is the issue but when he is on he dominates. Everyone saw what he did to canada at the U20. Nobody thinks he is a riser? I've seen him drop on a few lists and I'm confused.

I see him as a dropper. His work ethic is really sketchy. He has skill but who knows if he can make it in the NHL with his ethic.

He just finished 1st in scoring for the Bulldogs and was also named player of the year for them . No need to remind you that he did that while being a rookie in the AHL ...
