I don't expect this to be a popular opinion, but one for one, I'd do that trade in a mili-second.
He's played a checking role this season, but the scoring decline started before that. The previous two years it was O'Reilly as the chief checking center and Statsny was still only in the 50-60 point range.

The biggest reason for Statsny's scoring decline beyond decreasing talent is that his earlier numbers were heavily inflated by the absurdly aggressive run and gun system that Colorado was playing for a while, which lead to lots of goals for and even more goals against.

Sticking with our identity, we can get bigger without having to add a (slow) Jagr/Clowe. Throwing 5m at a 41 year old player who can no longer keep up? What happens next year after 82 games? I don't want to gamble 5m to find out.

Sticking with Speed and size, there are decent players out there that wont coast you that kind of coin.. Stalberg for example can bring speed, size and ~20g a year for somewhere around 3-3.5m
Firstly, he had 3 ES PTS and 1 PP PT.

I never said sign him long-term, as I don't think he wants to either. 1 year at 5 million I wouldn't be too mad about. Although the idea of signing Elias for 1 year at 6 million would make me much happier. He's a way better in the faceoff circle than any of our centres right now, and he's such a great player and fast.

Going with size, I think Stalberg at 4 million is more likely (cuz Montreal always has to overpay for guys [see Gionta, Cammalleri, Cole as examples). Can he play the RW or can we move somebody (I guess Bourque?) to the RW. I like Clarkson too IMO, but Stalberg is bigger and faster and would actually top my list if he can fit in our lineup...

Does that make more sense now? We have more depth on the LW and C positions then we do at RW. Very simple. Although it has been made apparent to me that Bourque could theoretically play the RW, so either is possible i guess.

Can you get Elias for 5 million, or would you spend more to bring him over?
Bourque has played both wings, that's but a minor detail.

I don;t think we sign either of them, just saying if I'm spending big bucks on a short term high offense guy it's Elias not Jagr.

Lundqvist took a run at Subban. It looked like he was trying to knee.

He's played both LW and RW, but he's LH.

I like Clarkson too, but I'm sure there will be a bidding war for him. We should try and shoot for guys that are a little under the radar I think. This years crop is so thin, the overpayments might be brutal this year

I held my breath for a moment. Looked like PK was in a bit of pain.

That's what I thought too. I don't think there are a lot of black people in Sweden no offense to Sweden.

And just to get back on that hit. Man Subban is pretty indestructible that could have been quite a collision but he absorbed it beautifully. You just can't injure this kid and he has been public enemy number one since he entered the league. That's an ironman. Now watch me jinx him...

Subban!!!!!!!!!!!!

Every serious team would rather Elias. Even at his advanced age his an amazing two-way player. I'd take him for a single season over anyone the Habs have right now at forward.

Doubt Elias leaves NJ though. He seems like a lifer.

People say the same thing in Canada because there once was a black kid in their classroom.

How high do you think teams will pay for Clarkson's services? He made 2.667 million this past year in NJ. So is 5 million what the highest bidder could be paying for? If that's the case I want no part of that. 4 million would be the highest I would go for DC, maybe 4.5.

Which guys are you thinking of that are a little bit under the radar? Antropov?

Agreed. He's young and has great talent, but I think Yakupov would make Team Russia over Galchenyuk making Team USA. But i could be wrong...

Wait.. he did make USA-sr at 19 technically.

Crazier things have happened but I agree that he doesn't really have much of a chance when the winter Olympics roll around.

Heck, he can still play for the u-20 team if the Habs release him (won't happen).

He might be a bit overpaid (which can change as his contract is up) but I'd say his value to a team can be 3M better than DD. Aside from being one of the best F/O guys in the NHL, he plays tough minutes with weak linemates and still can produce on par with DD. Essentially plays the same role as Plekanec.

http://www.behindthenet.ca/nhl_stati...6+27+13+15+29#

Last time Stastny had good linemates was 2009/2010...oddly enough also the last year Plekanec had good linemates (Stastny had 79 points, Plekanec had 70). Now imagine both sharing the load in terms of competition and quality linemates instead of the Habs current situation.

He meant Olympic Team USA. Notice the lack of talent on Team USA at the Worlds, they're missing (to name a few) Ryan, Kane, Brown, Kessel, Parise, Pavelski, Callahan,...

Good luck to AG27, but doubt he makes the team at Sochi. But hey, ya never know...

I know what he meant but if you take his post literally then you get my first sentence in my reply. And I did elaborate.

Not that it's much of an accomplishment, Kristo is in it with 0 NHL games.

Aw crap Sweden scores.
