Don't you think it speaks volumes about a person's character that nobody gave that rumor a second glance to question it?
Wait, now Kane is a bad guy because people believe whatever they read on the internet? And actually some journalists did their research and talked to the police, who responded by saying Kane had done nothing worthy of a citation. Unless choking girls isn't worthy of a citation anymore, I'm pretty sure that was 100% bs.
I don't know, I feel like awards should matter for higher goals like getting into the Hall of Fame. No one will get into the Hall of Fame based on winning Lady Byngs. For lower goals, it won't get players extra money when they're UFAs, so I doubt they care.
The only reasons I can think of for having this award is tradition and PR.
I get that Kane has matured, I actually believe that and think it's somewhat visible, but he still doesn't scream "gentleman personified" on the ice to me. I think it's a bit of a case of Kane being a perfectly marketable still relatively young star player on a big club, who's positive development is being highlighted by this. I don't think it's a sensible nomination, yet.
