D Prospects

A look at LA's defense in the pipeline is interesting. Granted not all these players will develope how we'd all like, but take a look.

Jack Johnson-once signed, should be great.
Petiot-injury is a set-back, still could be a decent 5-6 guy.
Joe Ryan- could develope into a great 3-4 player with an edge.
TJ Fast-Offensive guy and good puck mover, 3-5 PP and point man
Paul Baier-got to get more out of him, has potential but don't they all.
Hersley-Like this kid a bunch, does everything well #3 imo of the future
Harrold-could be better than first thought, good depth 5-6 guy with PP talent
McGinnis-Tough kid with good head on his shoulders, O'Donnel-like
Josh Meyers-Kid is good, lots of time for him to develope.

The rest I just don't know anything about. I do understand that some of these kids will never play in LA, but there is some talent and much more than a day ago. Without Johnson the list looks just ok, but JJ adds a lot to the organization.

I understand that many were impressed by the D-prospects based on what they saw at the camp. However, Jack Johnson is what makes that list good...prior to his acquisition, they could optimistically be called average.

It's hard to say, considering we didn't have any all-star defensemen in the pipeline prior to the trade. I still think Hersley, Andersen, McGinnis, and Harrold will all see NHL time in the future. Maybe not on the Kings, but on some NHL team.

It's just too bad Lombardi had to give up on Gleason to get Johnson ... don't get me wrong I KNOW this is a BIG UPGRADE ... but think what might have been if Lombardi could have made that Sopel or Miller or Weaver or Dallman instead of Gleason ...

The Kings Blueline could have looked like this down the line

Jack Johnson / Lubomir Visnovsky
Tim Gleason / Patrik Hersley
Richard Petiot / Joe Ryan

Dallman, TJ Fast, Niclas Andersen, Paul Baier, Harrold, McGinnis, Mormina, Josh Meyers

Not a bad mostly Homegrown D ...

Bernier in Goal maybe ...

and now think the O of O'Sully,Cammy, Fro, Brown, Kopitar, Tuk, etc also mostly home grown ...

Liking the look of the team in 2-3 years ... but this season may be a Looooong one

Harrold will be nothen less them John Michael Liles. I dont buy that. Harrold is a great little offensive d-man in the making.

Hersley is gonna be a good 1. Anderson might not make it.

I don't "think" anyone ever suggested it either. I think Rutherford made a much more reasonable deal than people generally think. Getting rid of Tverdovsky was the real coup for him. That guy was making 2.5 million to stink up the joint, and after being a healthy scratch for virtually the entire playoff run, he played one exhibition game, was a minus THREE and Rutherford said, "enough."

I think he's gonna love Gleason there, and I also think Belanger is a perfect third line center for him.

We can revisit in five years Johnson should be showing what he can REALLY do by then.

I'm even less optimistic then some of the other posters:

I think we should be happy if 2 of those kids becomes NHL players. Estatic really.

My bets are on:

Jack Johnson
Hersley

All the others are in the bad 5-6 spot that is way to easy to drop down to career AHLer.
