One whipping boy leaves, another enters.

Niinima's gonna be more hated than Brisebois. He's a terrible defenseman, especially at 2.5 million.

I guess it's good that Ribeiro's gone, but this is nothing to celebrate...IMO

I'm ok with it. Weren't going to get anything for Ribeiro other than a pick, yet we managed to add depth to our D, even if Niinima can only be a bottom pairing guy.

Just hope Plekanec is ready to take that second line spot. Then again, even if he isn't Johnson is an option as well.

I've been told that Gaston Therrien just said tonight it will be:

Latendresse - Koivu - Ryder
Samsonov - Higgins - Kovalev

Where is Bouillon fit in this !?
Decent forward lines, your D is **** up though.

Markov - Rivet
Souray - Komisarek
Niinima - Dandenault

Also, I wouldn't be surprised if Perez was on the third line instead of Latendresse. Wow...Now I really can't wait for Oct 6th.

I'm not a fan of this deal. I've liked Niinimaa in the past, but based on his recent years, he is not good enough to crack Montreal's top six.

Further, I see Ribeiro as being a consistent 55-65 point producer. I don't see a replacement for him in the Montreal system right now. Yes, I like Plekanec more. But Koivu does get injured. When he gets injured, Plekanec can step into Koivu's role, but then who's the second line C? Bonk? I don't like it.

Bottom line:

Niinimaa's overpaid and doesn't offer Montreal much at the moment.

Montreal dealt from a position of weakness for a position of relative weakness due to injuries.

On the bright side, this means Perezhogin, Latendresse and Garth Murray can be playing right now.

Or, we'll see Kostitsyn back up. But I like to think Murray's earned his spot on this team.

Lats on first line...wow. Way to not rush this kid.

I know it's only pre-season but I'm assuming the opening night lineup will be pretty similar to the starting line-up tonight.

You're a master with those avatar !!!

I think Niinimaa with his experience and his friendship with Koivu will be a good adition for the locker room. I remember Niinimaa was well appreciated by his teamates during his time in Edmonton, because he's a funny guy who makes a lot of jokes. I think it will works well for him over here.

I'm happy with the trade. Niinimaa will be ou 6-7 def right now. Without Bouillon and Coté injury I wouldnt do this move but we need hom now.

At least Perezhogin and Kostitsyn will play more and I'm happy. I like this trade!

I'm surprised Montreal was willing to take on Niinimaa's contract, he was fantastic a few years ago in Edmonton but he's beyond useless at this point.

Value wise it's pretty close and the Habs are a better team now.

Markov-Rivet
Dandy-Souray
Komisarek-Bouillon
Streit-Coté

I prefer Streit not in the top 6.

Perhaps Ribeiros off ice activities/inflences have a factoe in this (see Dagenais, Theo...)

Maybe, perhaps, just throwing it out there...you know...just like that...

Wow, totally unexpected...

I must admit that I like the fact that Ribeiro is gone, but Niinimaa was playing some horrible hockey last year, so I guess we'll have to wait and see how this one will turn out...

Now as for the lines, who knows what they will be like...

If Bobs was on the ball, you would have seen JJ here instead of JN.

it's more like 500k, alot of you hate ribero so getting rid of him is a positive, but trust me, there are few players who are lazier then ribero but you guys managed to get one of them. Dallas fans are jumping for joy as well for getting rid of niinima... that should tell you how much each teams fans hate them.

BTW, I can't wait until all the pundits weigh in.

McGuire's new monster performer: Mike Ribeiro!

The book is out on Bob Gainey...
