That's how you redeem yourself, Giroux.

I don't know how Canada's so bad offensively. Outside of Giroux & Stamkos it's been brutal.

Those two guys have sick chemistry too btw.

In his post game interview Bryz asked Russian fans for forgiveness for that disaster.
Also, Russian hockey specialists, coaches and Kovy do not blame goalies for the loss.
All of them are fingerprinting poor team defense and poor team play overall (from sports.ru)

Did John Leclair just take the game winning shoot out shot for Sweden?

Kid came down and riffled it by Smith with a slapper.

If only Giroux didn't lose the puck in the shootout...

David Strehle ‏@David_Strehle 13m

“@Kurt_BSH Erik Gustafsson played 33:27 and had 61 shifts in that game.” / He's really blossoming. Bodes well for Flyers come October.

i've seen him play high 20's a few times already. the fact that he got 33 minutes is largely due to Edler's ejection. anyway imo he's been one of sweden's best players overall even though he hasn't been producing offensively.

i wonder if he'll get any consideration for the olympics next year after this showing.

Well, he's certainly on the radar from now on and a good showing next season will surely put him in contention. Problem though is that there are many swedish d-men with similar traits as Gus that are (or, at least, should be) currently ranked in front of him.

figured, thanks.

what i really don't understand is why people in the swedish roster thread keep talking about Rundblad. they guy is good offensively but he can't play defense, like at all. yet i see people complaining constantly that he's not on the team. for that matter Gus has produced at a .66ppg pace in the AHL over 144 games while Rundblad has produced at a .68ppg pace over 79 games in the AHL on a much much better team. similarly, gus has produced at a .22ppg pace in the NHL over 60 games while Rundblad has produced at a .21ppg pace over 38 NHL games in a more defensive system. i understand why a team might prefer rundblad over gus cause in the long run he'll most likely be the better player and he's just under 2 yrs younger too but why is everyone acting like there is such a huge difference between them offensively now? as i stated above i think it's damn obvious at this point that gus is the better of the two defensively so what's the problem?

i realize that gus hasn't been a point producer in this tournament but i think it's obvious that he's been given more of a shut down role, he's also averaged more minutes per game than any other swede.

Regarding Rundblad a lot of people probably have his last SEL season in mind where he showed his ridiculous offensive ability scoring 50 points, which have made him more recognizable to the swedish public, and not the following struggles to stick in the NHL.

The fact that the team needed more offense on D (god knows this team need better players overall) automatically puts Rundblad on the top of the pecking order on reputation alone.

On a non-flyers related note:

The swedish PBP announcer was talking about Justin Schultz and his -17 from the past season and noted that he had three fellow Oiler on the team and said: "I guess that the Oiler players enjoy playing with Team Canada because they don't have to concede so many goals".

I guess you could say the same for the flyers guys (4 total players on team Canada like the oilers) and the flyers actually let up more goals then the oilers.

Because their main goalie stopped 92% of the shots he faced, and our goalie stopped 90%.

ok, but my point still stands. the flyers were worse in that department as a team.

Yeah I know, I'm just trying to suppress this season by focusing on other teams suckiness instead

I absolutely love this kid...

And people still have him as the 7th defenseman if we pick up someone in the offseason.

I can't see anyway he's not in our top 6 next year. Actually, unless we pick up someone significant, I can't see any way he's not on our top 4.

He's really turning into something awesome.

I'm a big Gus supporter and I think he's in our top 6 next season no doubt but I would just like to see him sustain his high level of play for longer periods of time. It always seems like he gets injured then takes a little while to get back to where he was. With that said, I full expect this happen next season. How anyone could say he's on the same level as Gervais is beyond me.

Edit: he lead Sweden in ice time again today by about 2 minutes in a 3-0 win over Finland. Gold medal game between Sweden and Switzerland tomorrow. USA and Finland for Bronze.

At least Gus is guaranteed a medal at this point.
