If the Swiss reach the final, Josi could very well be the MVP of this tournament. He's playing on a elite level right now. This kid has such high upside it's not even funny. In a few years people will look back at the 2008 draft and won't believe the Preds got him in the 2nd round.

I'm not saying all of Smiths issues were because of linemates and coaching.
It's not the coach per say it's the predators system which does not scream offense. Can the offense be effective absolutely but for some players it doesn't help especially when there confidence is low.
I hope this tourny is good for head and he comes back and proves the bashers wrong.

Give Smith credit for having a good tourney so far. Maybe it gets him back on track. Instead of bashing his success, support the kid and what he's done. I hope it gets him on track for us as I felt he need a boost in his confidence. He just may be getting that. Hockey and any sport for that matter derive success from confidence and if he has a good tourney and regains his confidence, that's all we can ask for.
maybe there is a reason all that NHL talent is on the Russian team at the worlds.....

Im not the one trashing. you are the one blaming a coach for a players failure to perform.

lack of adequate linemates is the lamest excuse for lack of production.

at some point a player has to produce. period.

I agree that a good player should produce, but this is not an individual sport. Linemates have a huge impact on the success and productivity that a player has. I'm not talking about anyone specifically here, but lack of adequate linemates is not an excuse, it's a reason.

See Dupuis and Kunitz then. They are good players but teamed with Crosby have put up monster numbers.

It's the same discussion we've all had about Legwand for years and whether or not he was producing or not. It's not always about the ability of the players that someone is playing with but the chemistry they have. For a while Smith, SK and Clune had a thing going that I thought worked for one reason or another. Then they got broken up for whatever reason.

It would be nice for Smith to take the next step in his progression. I hope we can all agree on that.

I don't know how Smith can be considered a tweener yet. A tweener is a guy who has proven himself over several seasons in the AHL and has failed at multiple opportunities in the NHL. Smith's career arc so far has gone: First half of rookie season- Great. Second half-Average. His second year he was playing with no confidence on a garbage team. He doesn't fit the definition of tweener yet.

Josi is already a world class D !

Having played this year with Shea Weber has made him remarkably better.
I'm impressed how much he elevated his game.

i am sure that at the end of next year, Weber-Josi will be as good as Suter-Weber.

It's not an excuse it's facts. Players thrive with players they match well with. It also helps when they are not all expected to be David Legwand.

A player has to be put in the right situation to succeed. Put Forseberg with Clune and Yip and see how he does. I guess you will be calling him a tweener and garbage to when he doesn't produce?

I think you need to study up on hockey chemistry.

Watch what you say on this board, Legwandites have been using those exact excuses for years.

Josi is indeed just
I'm wondering if it's the bigger ice surface that make him look absolute dominant?! I did not see any predators games this season...just wondering, if hes playing the same "style/offensive game" as in national team right now...?

He is shadowed by Weber ! Yet he is remarkable in the fact that you do not see him, no dumb passes, is good in his corner, carries well the puck, is gaining experience and staying very disciplined in his assigned area and taking care of his responsibilities.

In the Swiss team he was everywhere ... he had inspiration and enjoyed taking action on it.
He is truly fantastic !

I believe that the NHL way is having a model ... and you throw into the spots the players ... in Europe (in Switzerland at least) ... you take what you have as players and make the best out of it.
So Josi explodes in such a model.

Josi is special. Like, really special. I think he is the new Suter. The issue now is finding someone to play with Klein.

@usahockey: NBC Sports Network will air Team USA vs Switzerland in the #IIHFWorlds semifinals tomorrow live at 1 p.m. ET

NBCSN just bumped what they had scheduled for this game. Just put a reminder on my Outlook calendar; very excited for this game. Get to watch Josi while cheering the USA on, perfect.

Definitely. I really wish Blum would round back into form, as he and Klein looked pretty good together for a short period season before last. If he could step back up into a solid second-pairing role it would really help the overall team defense. But I think it's more likely that Poile goes out and finds someone this summer.

I wish we had played Blum with Klein late last year when it was clear we were out. That pairing was great a few years back, and it would have been the real test if Blum could stick.
