Yes Boudreau did an amazing job, but Therrien took the habs from 15th in the east to division winner this year. Futhermore, Therrien doesn't have a Perry, Getzlaf, Ryan, Selanne, etc, to work with.
I don't understand the league decision.
Perry and Getzlaf don't mean anything, the Ducks finished 25th last year and we finished 28th. I think both coaches deserve to be there with MacLean. Quenneville as good as the Hawks have been this season was pretty much not a surprise to anyone
I would like to congratulate the poster who said, in the middle of our tough stretch something along the lines of "How to lost the Adams nomination in 2 weeks...." Well done.
Boudreau and MacLean belongs. Possible that the bad stretch did in fact cost Therrien his nomination. I think that somehow you get the idea that the "league" thought that the 15th position to 2nd position is more about Bergevin, hence HIS nomination, than Therrien's work. And while it would still have been impressive, that, in the end, Boston lost their 2nd place instead of us winning it. Just trying to see what it happened. Therrien is not my favorite but wouldn't have been shocked to see him there.
At one point, it's great to recognize the greatness of a coach of powerhouses teams. It is something to coach those teams, keep everybody happy and so on. Being a great coach and deserving a Adams nomination shouldn't be always about teams WE didn't expect to see and ended up being better than expected. If anything, sometimes, it's because the expectations were too low. But what the Sens did without their key players had to be a result of a very good system inplementing by the coach.
Well which other team besides Pittsburgh and Chicago would you have bet on?
Tbh, I actually I could have picked the Kings to do it...but considering Quick had an average season really didn't help much, not to mention the fact they had some key guys on their back end injured (Mitchell, Voynov for a bit,...)
You guys realized that LAK underperformed last year by finishing 8th, as Lombardi head to fire Murray and brought in Sutter to light some fires under the team's ***** (which he did) and then won the Cup. I think they were supposed to finish 4th or 5th in the Conference (according to reports from before the season started) and had greatly underperformed.
I think playoffs should count for this award. But anyway, you can't exactly argue with the top-3, although the Boudreau/Therrien turnaround teams are kind of vote-splitters, maybe. I don't even like Therrien, but when a team goes from 15 to 2 without any really drastic player changes, you kind of expect the coach to get recognition. I thought he'd be among the finalists. But I don't really object to any of the others being there. Therrien was probably 4th or 5th.
After Martin was fired the team tanked. They added a few good players through the draft and became a bit better. 15th to 2nd shouldn't come in to play because Montreal was not that bad. Now if they finished 15th 3 seasons in a row then you would have a legit argument.
Ottawa finished better than the year before without most of their best players through large portions of the season. We've had something like 15 different AHLers play for us this season.
