Pacioretty is pretty great on his own, don't let last years WC (aka fact that Stastny was centering him) and his injury late in the season fool you.

But damn straight Stastny is underrated, and I agree with you, he would be our first line center almost by default. Plekanec is great but he is a nbr 2 C.

I only say that because pacioretty will be able to simply focus on finding soft spots. He won't be leaned on to retrieve the puck as much. stastny actually wins his battles, he is so good along the boards and he will find the open guy. Patches would have a field day, every day!

Absolutely. Stastny actually draws coverage.

And now, THAT would explain why team USA has a player named Stastny. Man I was wondering and wondering why the hell... thanks for clearing that up!

It was a joke. It was a response to the two previous posts that began with "Isn't Stastny...".

We should acquire Stastny then trade him to Quebec once they get their team back. Out of nostalgia they are surely going to be willing to trade us multiple first rounders just to get him.

I like the way you think. We could also sign Jean-Philippe Coté

Yeah, but they're not getting a team soon so it doesn't matter. Maybe if his son ever becomes an NHLer it might happen.

Yeah... Sounds like you never actually got around to watch him? Just living on reputation? He had two superior seasons to Plekanec, in terms of points. I really don't see the love he gets, I don't like him at all. If anything, Stastny is more of a 2c than Plekanec.

Stastny is a pretty solid number 1. Plekanec is more of a platoon center than a number 1. Stastny is definitely a better player, that's not even up for debate.

It is up for debate... I really don't see the appeal of Stastny... He considerably slowed down.

Stastny is more creative but not as good defensively as Plekanec. I think Stastny has improved his overall game over the last couple of years especially the play away from the puck. I would say Pleks is still the better player but the gap isn't that big.

I'd be happy if Sastny, Galchenyuk and Eller would be our centres going forward. Pleks seems to be part of the old era and now it's time to move on.

Who was playing on the line with Pacioretty last year at the Worlds? Was it Stastny?
